It's a polite term for "fake". Some outfit, or possibly a few are making optical sights which outwardly resemble the ACOG. In reality, they are not as sturdy or as waterproof and, the ones I have seen are just basic red dots whicle a true ACOG has magnification and distance scaling with trajectory compensation. It's basically the "fake Rolex" of the sight world. I believe the manufacturers thay can catch (fat chance in China) are being sued for infringement by acog. |

It means you will pay less and will get less. When it comes to optics there are reason why the real brands cost a lot more than the cheaper knock offs....especially when distance is factory. That said, as much as I like the looks of the ACOG, I saved bucks and went with an Aimpoint.....same funcitonality, less than half the cost (still almost $400, which I figured was enough for a red dot sight) I still want an ACOG though
