It's a polite term for "fake".  Some outfit, or possibly a few are making optical sights which outwardly resemble the ACOG.  In reality, they are not as sturdy or as waterproof and, the ones I have seen are just basic red dots whicle a true ACOG has magnification and distance scaling with trajectory compensation.  It's basically the "fake Rolex" of the sight world.  I believe the manufacturers  thay can catch (fat chance in China) are being sued for infringement by acog.

Thank You. Why would anyone spend money on a nice rifle, camo and all, then put a fake on it? I was looking at a rifle in the EE and didn't know what that meant.

It means you will pay less and will get less.
When it comes to optics there are reason why the real brands cost a lot more than the cheaper knock offs....especially when distance is factory.

That said, as much as I like the looks of the ACOG, I saved bucks and went with an Aimpoint.....same funcitonality, less than half the cost (still almost $400, which I figured was enough for a red dot sight)

I still want an ACOG though
