I was shopping today and saw a 60-ish year-old guy spit on the sidewalk while waiting for his wife to open the car. Why do people do this? What's wrong with just swallowing your saliva? It's probably less common nowadays compared to past generations, but it's still pretty disgusting, especially when it seems so unnecessary (as opposed to farting, which IS necessary). I especially don't like it when I see someone's fresh spit in a water fountain. |

It never bothered me, and I don't spit. Like you, I never saw the point unless I have something awful in my mouth. (Hey, there's a good joke ripe for the picking). Spit on the sidewalk. Have fun, doesn't bother me. Unlike most people, there are very few things that people do that actually bother me. If spitting makes them happy, then by God, spit away. |
ahem...... "Subnet mask only spits when he has -----SOMETHING AFFUL-----in his mouth." Thanks for the setup, Subnet! B |
So that answers the question weather or not he "spits or swallows".

He wasn't coughing beforehand. But even when I cough something up, I still swallow it. Why? 1) I don't have to visually expose others to it, and 2) I don't have to move it forward on my tongue (where the most sensitive taste buds are) in order to spit it out, so I don't have to taste it as much. |
| its not horrible but it is kinda hoosier-ish- me and my entire extended family never have problems with spitting out saliva. i'm onboard with the arfcom mentality mostly but i question why i never seem to have the problem of too much saliva and i don't think its very classy to be spitting in public. snot or tobacco is a different story but still not classy. |
| I have too, I make way more saliva than most people, even went to the doc for it when I was younger and they were stumped but told me it was nothing to worry about so I spit. I think it has something to do with the two small holes on the roof of my mouth, the doc said they would go away as I got older but here I am 20 years later and still have them. |
