| I just read 1984. Never read it in High School, not sure why. We read Brave New World. I really enjoyed it, very creepy book. Very well written. |

I Believe your right |
I had my dad read the book after I finished with it. He gave me a 'what's the big deal?' look after he finished it. He had grown up in communist Hungary and from the stories he later told me it was not much different than the book. (This BTW is one reason why I like guns and hate socialists and communists so much.) |
Sadly many teachers I have talked to say they have given it up. Students don't seem to be able to grasp the concept these days, becuase it is so much like the world we live in they don't see the problem. |

I graduated in 1999 and read Brave New World as well. However, I was the only one as I was in a special class (no, not a short bus class) where I read the book and had to write a test over the material. The teacher really like my test essay question This reminds me, I should reread it and check out 1984. |
That's a very ironic statement. Seeing as how we have had a Republican controlled 'yes, men' congress for 6+ years. Patriot Acts Military Commissions Act--effectively ends the Bill of Rights Domestic spying Bush above the law Bush tripling the size of the ATF |
I'm sure the bushbots will be along any second to call you a communist and tell you to move back to russia. |
You can also buy or rent the unabridged audio book. See: Linky Or perhaps even better, go to your public library and see if you can borrow it there. The library may even be able to get it to you via Inter-Library Loan. The only downside of getting it from the library is that your library records are subject to search under the patriot act. (Oh, the irony of worrying that the .gov could find out you checked out 1984). I find that I do not have as much time to read as I did before kids, so I now listen to audiobooks in my car while on the road for work. It is a great way to make driving time productive. Mark |
You just finished the book 1984 and you really don't know why government schools don't want you to read it?????? really? You don't really think the government schools are they to educate you do you? Forget it, it's to train you. |
