Had a problem with what I thought was dirty-burning ammo, now I'm thinking overlubrication of the bolt & carrier.

If you overdo it on the bolt carrier, will you get a black sooty residue?

How much should you put on the bolt (not the bolt face, I believe it's supposed to be dry)

What about the lugs?  Dry or a little bit?

Besides trimming the big bristles off an AR chamber brush, what else to use for a polishing patch?  Does the 223 bolt action use a different chamber brush with lut the larger bristles?

(also trying maintenance forum)

Douche the bolt. Wet the bolt channel, cam pin channel, and rails in/on the carrier.  The fouling WIPES off - maybe a used bore brush for the tail of the bolt (outside).  No brush needed on the carrier - no metal brstled brush for damn sure.  This is a very short primer meant to suffice only until you RTFM.

You're only about the 3rd or 4th person to ask that question this week. Are you sure you're not all the same person? Anyway, RTFM and read Chuck's response here:
