Everyone is always quick to write about a great day at the range so I thought after todays shooting I would chime in and tell you how bad a day I had. Rifle: Savage 12FVSS Scope: Leupold MK4 6.5-20X50 LRT Ammo: Reloads, 44 grains Varget, Nosler 168 grain HPBT Range: 100 yards Normally, this rifle shoots sub moa without much effort on my part but for some reason, today, I shot like crap. I was not grouping, I realised I was suffering severe cranial rectal inversions after a couple of shots that were just a hair under 2" high when I looked at the scope and had a WTF Moment. I had a 200 yard zero and completely forgot about it. After a short pause, I shot a couple more "groups" if that's what you would call them and thought to myself "Today is not your day to shoot. I finished off about 25 rounds whenh I decided to call it a day. I packed up all my range gear and left. The drive home was less then exciting when I pulled into the driveway, got out, opened the garage door, turned back to my truck and with sheer horror I realised that I LEFT MY RIFLE AT THE RANGE! I did a quick 180 and hauled ass back the range which happens to be a 25 minute drive. The roads are slick from the light rain so I'm trying not to over do it. The whole way back the the range, I am frantically trying to call the range officer that was there when I left, but his Tel# is continously busy. Doom and gloom is now setting in and I am slowly realising that I have probably just donated a $1600 rifle package to some nice deer hunter that will put it to good use. I arrived at the raneg and the gate was locked but that's not a problem since all paid members have the combo to get in. I opened the gate and hauled ass to the rifle range and noticed two guys there that saw my panicked entry. There it was! in all its glory, my rifle, still in the case, on the bench. Feeling dumber then whale shit, I explained to the other guys what had happened, shot the shit with them for a bit then headed home. The next time I get the feeling that it's not my day to shoot, I'm staying home! |
This proves a point. The average gun owner is a more responsible (other then the stupidity on my part today) and honest then the average citizen. |

I know how you feel. Last week after I got back from the range, 1 hour drive in my case, I thought I'd left the 22 conversion for my Kimber. I was looking after my guest who hadn't shot before and was thinkng more about him than what I normally would have been doing. After frantically lookin through all the crap I had taken to the range I finally found it buried in the bottom of my booty bag. I really wasn't looking forward to having to do a two hour round trip back to the range. I'm going to make a mental checklist and go through it before leaving the range from now on. Sumna bitch. ![]() Glad you got your gun back. Must have been a peddle to the metal hands gripped tight to the wheel type of trip. |

Groups sucked, only 2 of the 5/5 shot groups were sub MOA Weather: 48f light misting rain, slight breeze, no noticable gusts. My Savage got a nice rubdown when I got home and polished the outside of the SS barrel with some Flitz BTW, I'm in the process of ordering Burris Signiture rings for the Leupold scope from Miday right now ! |

Wow! One day not long ago a guy wanted to trade me a rifle for a pistol I had. He showed it to me but I wasn't interested. He left. I got ready to go and realized he had left his cased gun laying on the bench. It was a really nice Winchester lever. I got it back to him no problem but he's lucky I'm honest. Of course HE WAS DRUNK! Glad you got your gun back. I guess you can only hit under ideal conditions. You need to be able to shoot drunk or sober, no matter what |
