My wife just gave me a not so subtle hint that she wants a scanner that will take all of our old photos and negatives and scan them into the computer. Anyone know a model or brand. Thanks.

I would get two seperate scanners, a flatbed for the photos and a dedicated film scanner.

For the film scanner get something with digital ICE to remove dust and scratches and also a model that does auto-feeding. That'll save a lot of effort.

For the flatbed scanner I've liked Epson and Microtek. It's not really the resolution that's important it's the ability to get the best color balance for good picture quality with the first scan. If you get the right scanner the scans will look good and you won't have to waste time tweaking them.

I use a Canon CanoScan 8400F flatbed scanner for scanning my illustrations.  It came with a negatives/slides adapter, but I don't know much about or do any film or negatives scanning.
