We are in the process of finishing our basement and of course the duct work is somewhat impeding our layout. What I need to know is how close can you dry wall against your duct work? Can the drywall sit tight against the duct work or do you need a gap? Also do I need to use a special type of insulation around my duct work or can I use standard fiberglass? One of the other problems we are having is that we had a duct installed last fall to heat a room that previously didn't have any heat. The HVAC guys installed an 8" duct from our furnace to the crawl space then ran an insulated flexible duct the rest of the way. The run is about 35' long and runs relatively straight. Is there anything we can do to reduce the size of the duct? I would like to shrink it down but am worried about losing heat in that room. Would it be possible to down size the duct to a 6" for about 3 feet then go back to an 8" or would this affect air flow to much? |
