Anyone ever modify a closet into a make shift gun safe? If so, how did you secure it? I know that a closet is far from ideal, but I live in an apt. on the second floor and there is no way i'm getting a safe up here. (landlord wont care about closet modifications) Pics would be nice. Thanks |

The locking "cabinets" ... I don't think the Stack-On things count as an actual safe... but they sell these things at Walmart. They hold 8-12 rifles or so. They cost something like $80. They are fairly light. They are ideal for a situation like yours. Here's what I'd do... Grab that cabinet, stick it in your closet, bolt it to the floor (lag bolts). Then install a deadbolt on the closet door. I'd put steel doors on the closet, on your apartment door, and on the outside door (if shared entry way) With No glass in them, and good strong deadbolts. Landlord would probably pay for them, or split the cost, or just stick the old doors in the basement and replace em when you move. You can always use, sell, or trade, good steel doors. That won't stop someone from ripping off the hinges, but its a deterrent. Three steel doors and a bolted down cabinet... someone would have to be very motivated, well equipped, and know what you have in there.. to go through all that trouble. Add a pair of guard dogs and you are G2G. |
