Does anyone know if the average hardware store stocks them?

FYI a Chicago screw is a flat headed screw that interfaces with a flat headed mate. One side is threaded outside and the other piece has inside threads. Think of the screws on leather belts and slings for holding two pieces of leather together.

Are you anywhere close to Travis Hardware in cocoa?

They have EVERYTHING!

ETA if you only need two, Walmart has a $5.00 nylon sling that has a couple on one end.

Seek out a tack store.  They're used in saddlery extensively.

Yep, logically, I should just buy a spare sling. I need the screws for something else.

Try Wal-Mart in the craft section, or one of the craft stores like Michaels. Does Tandy have an online store. A belt / leather maker may have them as well.

In the office furniture installation world, we call those "sex bolts", no kidding.

Also, try McMaster-Carr---THEY have everything. . .

A tack shop or leather shop will have them.
