I just got a copy from a coworker and after reading a few pages in the middle, it looks fantastic.

Anyone here read it? If so, what's your review of it?? Curious if I got lucky with a few pages or if the whole thing is a worthwhile read?

I'm usually only good for reading anything about the size of a good magazine article, but I might make a rare exception here.

Thanks for the review in advance.

I liked it, even though there were some technical errors.

+1

The debate centered (as I recall) on some of the anecdotal parts - the writer took it as Gospel what a few GIs told him some other guys did (the ones portrayed in a negative light).

I still really liked the book.

I read a few pages regarding sniper operations which was really interesting. Just not sure about the other 352 pages, and I suffer from literary commitment issues.

I read the book and thought it was very enlightening.
It shows how the  “pop culture” age has changed the nature
of our soldiers, their perceptions of the world, and of each other.
You will find the familiar “brother in arms” theme. These guys were very loyal and dedicated to each other. Closer than most families.
Cool read. Also very funny in places

For some reason, whenever I think of "Captain America" I always envision 1911greg.

I really liked it. I read it three times total. I also wrote an essay in English class about it. The teacher gave me this look of when I handed it in.

If you like that book; you'll like "Shooter" and "This Man's Army" along with "BRAVO TWO ZERO".

"This Man's Army" by Andrew Exum was also a good Iraq/Afghanistan book.

BTW, any DU trolls ever show up here talking about "Chasing Ghosts"?

Excellent book. Probably the best to come out of this war so far. I almost pissed on myself when the author talked about the higher rank the grunts were, the more vigorously they scratched their balls. Classic.

It was well written, but as has been said, the writer included a lot of BS tall tales as if they were gospel.  And people who were there said it didn't happen that way.

I read the book I believe three times and have always enjoyed it.  I am on acquaintance with one of the Force Recon gentlemen that was in the events of the book though not in the exact unit with which the author travelled.  He said the book was very accurate.

Disclaimer: this gentleman does work at a gun store but I have known him long enough to know he is the real deal.  Just hearing him rattle off forward air control lingo like an auctioneer makes my head hurt.

I read both "Shooter", "This Man's Army", "The Last True Story I'll Ever Tell", and "Chasing Ghosts" along with other things...

It's ok for what it is I guess. There were some good parts, but most of the book from what I recall just talked about all of the dumb shit they did and said in their spare time.

Good read, hard to put down. I also have the book written by the LT. in Generation Kill. Nathaniel Fick is his name, the book is "One Bullet Away". I thought it was interesting how two people (the LT and the Reporter) could have two very different views on some of the same events. If anything, I would say the reporter's account was a little exaggerated, and the LT's account was sanitized. just my .02

The author came and talked on campus. I went to his lecture and it intrigued me enough to read the book. I enjoyed it and found it to be a quick read.
