Well has anyone switched over yet? They just put in FiOS here and I am debating if the whole transition BS is worth it. For a start its 10$ less a month. And supposed to be as fast or faster.................................. What say you? PG |
Thanks Cruz, Your a tech guy. What should I expest with the speeds and such? I am on cable now ...............The Verizon sales staff gives ya the typical faster than a speeding bullet crap ................Whats the real world like.............? |
Well browsing, you won't notice because it's just not that bandwidth intensive. For downloading The real advantage is the upstream bandwidth. Even cable is typically throttled at ~400-500kbps so at 2-5Mbps, it's 4-10x faster. This would be useful if you are running a server or do much uploading (like backing up files to a internet storage site). Also if you use bit torrent, you can upload files faster which means it will let you download files faster. ETA: Latency is likely lower too so that's good if you do VOIP |
Was it worth the hassle of changing everything over. We have had cable for many years now 5-6 . Change is hard sometimes ya know |
Yea I was thinking the 44$ a month plan but if it's not that much different I could save a few bucks and stick with the cheaper one |
I live a couple miles outside of Verizon's service area (AT&T here ) and my buddy lives in Verizon's service area.Service is awesome, tv is good, and the speed is fricking ridiculous. When they installed the Fiber D-mark, the techs took great care to do it right. I wish I had FiOS. |
if you can afford it i would do the 15mb service. as posted above it will not help surfing the web. its only utilized on certain programs. bittorrent is a good example if i was a bit closer to the CO i could get 6mb download 384upload for : Download Max. Speed* 256 Kbps 1.5 Mbps 3.0 Mbps 6.0 Mbps Upload Max. Speed* 128 Kbps 384 Kbps 384 Kbps 384 Kbps Monthly Price with Bundle**$19.95 $24.95 $29.95 $39.95 you get the idea |
Yeah, well worth it. My cable was always out. FIOS never failed. |
|
I just switched over this week from comcast/TWC. I'm so happy. 15mbps for the same price as comcast at 6mbps. ![]() With the cable I get more standard channels and no advertising on the menus. Everything bundled together is ~$40 cheaper per month. |
| Just two small problems with FIOS internet. First is that the Verizon guys did not know anything about hooking up to my airport system and I asked them to send a Mac guy. After they left I had to reconfigure everythig but it works fine. The second thing is that after I got FIOS I get a Verizon offer for a FIOS plan for $7 less per month. Thanks. We spoke to the installation team about FIOS TV. They said it would only take a few minutes to hook us up as the box was connected to the street and the line can handel everything. This the future. Go for it. |

my bro in law got it here in ny. internet speeds are not noticably faster, thoguh tests will show that they are double to triple cable. thing is it takes pages longer to start appearing but once they do BAM. same with downloads, a little lag to get it going and then wallah a billion megs done. the TV is out freaking standing best TV quality I've ever seen. the menus and remotes are teh best yet without a doubt. If I could get it in VA I would. It's even sweeter in ny cause you're getting cable without going through the mother of all evil company's cablevision - fucking dolan's. |
) and my buddy lives in Verizon's service area.
