[ARCHIVED THREAD] - HEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEELP!!! (Page 1 of 3)
I watched an animal control guy successfully pick up a trap once with a big skunk inside. He got a large impregnated canvas tarp and approached PePe VERY slowly and carefully with said tarp up in front. As he got up to the trap, he eased the tarp down onto the trap and gently picked up the animal and trap. Then he put him in the back of his P/U and took him off to be put down. |
Cover the cage with a tarp or a towel or something. Wear overalls just in case. Transport the animal to a wooded area. Release it there. Or you could just solve the problem with a .22. |
Some have migrated, gone to college and taken jobs not far from where I live! |

DO NOT SHOOT. They will spray as soon as the first bullet goes in. Including head shots. I repeat: do not shoot. Memorize the procedure to open the trap door. You will be under stress when you do this. Memorize! Cover the trap. Let it sit for a while- 15 minutes at least. Put on elbow length gloves- leather is best- and clothes you are willing to sacrifice. Cover head to foot- especially cover your head (hair). Reach in slowly underneath the tarp (or blanket) and open the trap- keeping the trap covered at all times. Retreat to higher ground. Reach down from above and slowly take the tarp/blanket off letting light get into the direction you want the skunk going in. The skunk will likely simply amble out and go on with it's business. Fix a strong drink for yourself. |

I know a guy who had the same problem, He sank the trap but he told me that all of them couldn't spray with their tails down. I would unload on his ass, if you pet him go, hes just going to come back. Skunks are like cats, they come back where theres food. Shoot the bitch, the smell will go away in a few days |

You guys need to be MORE CREATIVE!!! BUY A KIDDIE POOL with sides high enough to keep the trap submerged (about 1.5' ft high), or some similar trough... Place a PLYWOOD or other relatively wide enough wood ramp from the ground, up to the edge of the 'pool' or water container... The problem YOU are going to have is that you FORGOT to tie a rope to the trap!!! ALWAYS tie a rope to a LIVE trap incase you get a skunk! TRY to get it attached with a length of rope (or maybe a treble hook and some HIGH lbs test fishing line like ocean fishing line), and drag the trap from ~40' ft away, drag it across the lawn, up the ramp, and INTO the pool. Make sure it's filled enough to COMPLETELY submerge the trap!!! Make sure of this ahead of time... MAKE SURE YOU LEAVE IT IN THERE FOR 24 HOURS!!! Once my uncle & I trapped a skunk, dragged the trap about 3-4 feet deep into the lake, and LEFT it there for ABOUT 4 to 5 HOURS!!! When we pulled out the trap IT WAS NOT DEAD YET!!! Bastard started spraying all over (but didn't get us, we were far enough away holding the rope). SO, for good measure, we ALWAYS leave them in there for overnight for a MINIMUM of 24 hours! Just to be safe. |

This is pretty cold but........ Heres what a buddy does. Take a BIG syringe, attach the plunger to a long dowel and fill the syringe with bleach. He then carefully walks up to the trap, talking calmly to the skunk, when he gets up to the side of the trap he slowly stick the needle into the side of the skunk.........they die almost instantly and he hasn't had one spray yet. This guy is a gov. trapper so he has a bunch of expiriance offing critters. I couldn't do it but it has to be done. |
