Are there any ill effects on a rifle if it is stored standing on the barrel?

Yes....unless you live in Austrailia

Don’t know of any.

I’ve actually heard some shooters claim a rifle should be stored upside down so oil in the bore will run out the muzzle and not into the action.

Nope, but many a old shotgun has had it's stock softened by oil running from the action, into the grip.

Yep, after I clean and oil a rifle, I usually store it on the muzzle for a couple of days, resting on an old rag, to let any excess oil drain out of the barrel.

It does no harm, and may save damage to the stock from excessive oil.

Never heard of this...

I just wipe the excess oil off...

Only way I can get them all in the safe is with half of them upside down.  They've all gone bang when they were supposed to so far.

Damn!  I got a response from Old Painless.   I am going to feel pretty special the rest of the day.
