Can anyone recommend a two-way radio, FRS or GMRS?  They all advertise miles of range, but reviews indicate much less range.  I understand the mileage rating is under optimal conditions, but it sounds like actual experience even under the best conditions is much less range than the rating.  Thanks.

You didn't mention what the intended pupose was.

I've found that you can reliably get about 1/2 mile from the little FRS hand-held radios in an urban environment.

GMRS all the way,it's well worth the extra few dollars. You can never have to much range.Make sure you buy a popular model so you will have full compatability with your friends.(The frequencies are usually compatable, the encoding features may not be.)

If you buy GMRS, be sure to read the requirements on licensing.
