[ARCHIVED THREAD] - Jesus Camp (Page 1 of 2)

Revelation 3:16 "So, because you are lukewarm—neither hot nor cold—I am about to spit you out of my mouth." Those who are hot are those who are on fire for God. They are full of zeal and vehement desire for God (2Corinthians 7:11). They have comitted themselves to the work of Christ (1Corinthians 16:15). They are sold out to God and the cause of Christ. Looks good to me. |

Amen! Brother Beagler, amen. My entire life is built around my service to Christ. It is defining factor in my relationship to God, my family, my co-workers, and my students. I lived on the other side for many, many years. I can't imagine ever turning my back on Jesus and living the old way of self. Christ not only saved my soul, but he salvaged my life. |

Lost of my friends and family went to church camp, but I never heard stories about that. The thrashing around on the floor is a little too far for me. Singing with your hands in the air? Fine by me. Some people find it hard to adjust. Personally, I like a nice sit-down and listen sermon. Unfortunately the church I attended since birth turned in to a money hungry (bought 3 $200,000 properties in the last 5 or so years with a membership of 3-400 people), stand up and sing, "contemporary" church. Sometimes I just want to hear the message, not stand up and sing "new" music. Anyone remember "Amazing Grace" or "Victory In Jesus"? I know I sure do, but it seems they've been forgotten. |

eh... I was unwelcome at bible camp after the second summer. Who knew booze, sex and AC/DC were inconsistent with the camp philosophy. Oh well, their loss, my gain....I discovered Catholic girls were more to my liking after that anyway; naughty bunch, the lot of them. |
|
I went to an extremely repressive Catholic institution for my undergraduate degree and the whole experience soured my outlook on religion in general. I understand now what Karl Marx meant when he said that religion is the opiate of the masses. "Here's to blood and blasphemy, and here's to whores and drink, in life you know you're living, in death you only stink." -Gen. George S. Patton |
She looks like she's being tormented by some kind of demonic creature rather than praising Jesus... |

Oh, boy, I'm not sure how to put this because it will probably result in me getting flamed...I hope not. I hope intelligent thought will prevail... Looking at the video, I couldn't help but compare it to videos I've seen of Muslim children nodding their heads as they read the Koran over and over. People scream that those poor Muslim kids are being brainwashed. Are we not also brainwashing our own kids by such immersion training? And yes, I realize the Muslim kids are being taught hate and ours are not...that's not my point. OK, flame away. |

I went to one for a few summers when I was younger. Couple times I came back resembling something of a christian, but usally got over it long before the next summer. The camp itself was fun, but at then end of the day I wanted to SLEEP, not attend some 2+ hour song and dance church service. Pricks. And they "technically" gave us... I want to say 6 (it's been awhile) hours to choose our activities. That meant that in a full day we could do waterslide, go karts, fishing, kayaking, arcade, and one more, at least according to me. OH TEH NOES!!!11 ONE OF YOUR HOURS MUST BE BIBLE STUDY!!!! Bullshit, I say. They screwed me out of what could have been an hour spent in productive fun by putting me in bible class. The biggest deterrent to religion is experiencing religion yourself . YMMV

Old Guy is a very anti-Christian chimpanzee that fairly regularly trashes Christianity in the religion forum. This is what the CoC calls trolling. Too bad nobody calls him on it. He posted no commentary... no nothing... just trying to stir the pot as usual. Hey Old Guy... why dont you post a video of an old fashion jewish circumcision ceremony ... and how the rabbi would sterilize the baby after doing it... ![]() Prolly most ppl have no idea what im talking about... I suggest you look it up. Dram out |
Probably. However I have long believed that Sci fi shows and various secular movements have been trying to move people's thoughts towards acceptance of such ideas for decades. It is a pervading theme in them. Is there any truth to it? I don't know? I do know however that primitive man would most assuredly describe events they deemed supernatural or could not explain, in supernatural terms. I often wonder how the bible would read if it were written by modern technologically savvy people instead of primitives. |

I couldn't veiw the video and that is probably good. Don't paint all of us with the same brush. I use 1 week of my vacation every year to volunteer as a counselor at a large Christian camp. I started going when I was 1 yr old. In 38 years I have only missed about 5 years total including last June when my new daughter was born. In my experience it is always uplifting. Sorry to all you who have had a negative experience. Like I said, don't paint all Christians with the same brush. |
That is the point. These kids are being taught that.... "All have sinned and fall short of the glory of God" - Romans 3:23 "For the wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life in[a] Christ Jesus our Lord." - Romans 6:23 "He himself bore our sins in his body on the cross, so that we might die to sins and live for righteousness; by his wounds you have been healed" - I Peter 2:24 "But God demonstrates his own love for us in this: While we were still sinners, Christ died for us." - Romans 5:8 Jesus answered, "I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me. - John 14:6 "Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in[a] the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, 20and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you. And surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age." - Matthew 28:19-20 Salvation for YOU and ME, offered by the God of the universe, throught Christ's death and suffering on the cross, is a FREE gift. You can do nothing to earn it. All you have to do is accept it. Seems to me like that's something to get excited about. |

If people want to send their kids to camps I have zero problem with it. It's their kids. This is the way it SHOULD be. I don't want it forced on everyone in schools (except religious schools where it is expected). So you take your kids to Church and if you are inclined, send them to religious camps. That way if your particular religion is "Islam" I don't have to deal with it. |
Ok, you win, the most rediculous statement in this thread so far ....
|
Nice of you to take it upon yourself to make the point of my post The REAL point was not the teaching, but the teaching method. Total immersion. And no, I am not "Christian Bashing". If you choose to live the Christian lifestyle, good for you, live happily, and I respect you for it. |
|
LOL, nothing really out of the ordinary there. That's how I remember church summer camp. FWIW, I believe in Jesus and talk to Him regularly, however, I've never had an emotional experience like a lot of people do in church. I STILL believe God judges our hearts. I DO NOT believe it is as cut and dry as the evagelical church and church camps I attended growing up preach. They scared the living shit out of us on purpose in thoswe camps! I assume however that they had no bad intentions about it, thats what they believe, and that is a freedom that I'm glad they can exercise. Speed |
As opposed to the "Total Immersion" teaching method that secular society uses to bombard kids with corrupt values, and moral relativity? |
Ok, I will...the point is who cares? They are brainwashing our kids with the message of Christianity... Well, lets see, how many brain washed Christians have recently... A. Flown planes into buildings and killed over 3000 people? B. Captured innocent civilians, beheaded them on camera and sent it out on TV and the internet? C. Routinely blow themselves up killing their own kind as much as "the infidel"? D. Build IEDs to kill American troops? E. Call for followers of their religion to kill all other who are not? F. Have stated specifically they want to turn the world into one ruled by their faith, and theirs alone? Hmmmm...I think the answer is none... Could it be the message being taught? |
Of course from the Muslim point of view, our military is their form of 'terrorism'. Not saying I agree, but they look at things entirely differently. |
Yes, Jesus commanded his disciples to convert by the sword. Jesus commanded that blood must be spilled so that his religion could stand on it's feet. Pull your head out of your ass. |
Maybe, but I don't really give a shit what my enemy thinks...this is why we cannot win wars anymore... In WWII no one cared what the Japanese or Germans thought, they just knew they had to kick their asses and kill a lot of them until the cried "no more". No touchy feely shit about "well, gee, they felt threatened that we cut off their oil supply, and so they are just acting out" Nope...hey, you want to sneak attack us, and kill 2,500 troops in Hawaii? OK, we'll battle you to the shores of your country, and finally drop bombs with more destructive power than anything else in history, incinerating your population, and keep dropping them until your surrender unconditionally. Thats how we used to win wars...now we "care" about our enemies and those who support them. We haven't really decisively won anything since...Oh, and of course the UN involved in anything is a guarenteed loser.... |
Well, maybe we've been going about this all wrong then. Since we have fundamentalist christians in this country using suicide bombings, commiting honor killings and punative rapes as a matter of social policy and using the military to wrongly impose our will upon the world, then I guess we should sit down with Osama Bin Laden and figure out how we can come to some sort of understanding. We can't rule out their point of view now can we? |
I dont get your point.. elaborate? |
My point is that you attempt to compare Christianity where the cornerstone of the religion is "love thy neighbor as thy self" to Islam which specifically commands it's followers that the must maim and kill in order to reach new converts. Christianity is in no way shape or form similar to Islam, and christians are in no way shape or form similar to islamics. A christian may tell you with a big bright smile that you're going to go to hell if you don't accecpt Jesus as your saviour. A muslim will put a machette to your throat and cut your head off if you refuse to bow to Allah. Big difference. |

. YMMV
