We call them 'Hay Spiders' around here.
They get pretty damn big too, and can cause quite a start when you almost walk into one of their webs while walking through a corn field...

i saw 2 in ohio, both were the size of my hand.. the webs were so strong,  i threw a 2" thick 2ft long stick at the web, and it stuck...

Yeah, garden spider.. Harmless.. Weaves elaborate webs.. Usually find them in the garden, bushes, near windows, etc..

We used to let them crawl on us when we were kids, to scare the girls..
