If you still decide to change, look at the new Gerber 800.  I have one and it is nice.  Need big hands to use the pliers though.

Would check on the warranty issue first though.

If you want gadget factory, check the Sog Swithpliers, got one and it has yet to fail on me.  If you want heavy duty tools, check out the Swiss Tool. Mine is so nice, I have to watch when people use it because they joke about walking off with it.

I have the leatherman, the Gerber and a Victorinox(originators of the Swiss Army knife). The Gerber has a screwdrive bit set that is nice. My favorite is the Victorinox due to its craftsmanship and all tools/blades lock open when extended. This is a really nice safety feature. It will greatly aid in saving a digit or two.

Another thing to consider when reviewing the massive number of tools is to determine whether you want regular pliers or needle nose type.

I've had 3 Gerbers & I now have the Leatherman Wave. Like it very much. [:)]

Nothing compares to the Leatherman Wave that I've seen personally.  It's got some heft to it, and just about anything you could need.  The blades lock when extended, and I never ran into a situation it couldn't handle, whether it was in the server room or out and about in the wilderness.

God Bless Texas

The Victornox SwissTool was my choice.  I
couldn't be happier with it.

"Based on overall quality, accessory selection, and performance, the Wave and SwissTool ranked as top choices. Although they cost the most of any tool tested, they consistently ranked first or second with our panel. In the words of one tester, “If I was really going to depend on one, another $20 is a small price to pay."

I carry a SOG paratool.  Have done so every day for the past year and a half.  I like it since you can open it with one hand, when applying pressure to use the pliers you are gripping a flat surface and you can take it apart to clean it every so often.  The Leatherman wave also looks very nice.

I also carry a Schrade and I recommend it highly.  Though mine came with a leather sheath, not nylon.

I have a couple Leatherman original tools. A Gerber tool, Swiss Army knife and now a Leatherman Wave. I use the Gerber tool in the winter. For one handed access. The Swiss Army knife in my cargo pocket or pack (it has everything)and I think that the Wave will due the rest of the year.
Leatherman and Gerber both have great customer service. Use it.

The only time you need a new Leatherman is when you lose it.  I personally broke the tip of the flat blade screwdriver of my Leatheman Pocket Tool because I was stupid, sent it back to Leatherman, and voila! 2 weeks later Pocket Tool was repaired and good as new.  Leatherman has the thinist needle nose pliers around to reach into tight places.  The wire cutter is hell bent strong, I cut a piece of spring steel on it(Leatherman highly discourages this practice), and there is only a little itty bitty nick in it.  One of the best made American tools I ever owned.
