Officers were investigating three reports of shots fired in the area around Salem Street near West Second and Third streets shortly before 2:30 a.m. when they spotted a Plymouth Neon that might have been involved. A high-risk stop was made on the vehicle near a gas station on West First Street. A rifle was found in the car along with at least two illegal magazines of .223-caliber ammunition. Lt. John Carillo said one magazine held more than 10 rounds, and another was a type known as a "banana clip" which held 30 rounds. The rifle was identified as a semi-automatic assault rifle, similar to that used by police. Carillo said witness reports confirmed five or six rounds had been fired into the air. Arrested were Justin Henry Yeater, 22, of Paradise, and Landon Raymond Boots, 20, also of Paradise. Yeater was identified as the shooter and charged with carrying a firearm in public and willful discharge of a firearm in a negligent manner. His bail was set at $5,000. Boots was driving the vehicle and was charged with aiding in the commission of the crimes. His bail was set at $2,000. The rifle and ammunition was confiscated. Carillo said the pair had the capability of firing off many more rounds if they hadn't been intercepted by police. |

If he fired into the air in town with a bolt action rifle, would that have been better? The article isn't anti-gun per se, but I really don't see why anybody cares what kind of rifle it was, or what it's magazine capacity was. The fact that he was discharging it in Chico city limits is all that's newsworthy. Ah, well. |

Most of the banana clips Iv'e seen here are of the 7.62 variety. I think that this is a pic of the actual weapon they confiscated seeing how it is in .223. Also notice that it is the 30 round banana clip manufactured by Al-Quita.   ETA: Sorry had some issues with the pics |
