Just got a Canon SD550 digital camera, and would like to buy a 1 GB memory card for it. Í've gotten all kinds of advice from my pencil-neck computer-and-camera geek friends. So I'm looking for a name-brand, "High Speed" (I'm told that's essential for movie mode) card.

Problem is, if I search for "High Speed 1 GB memory card", there doesn't seem to be such a thing.

Help me out - what do I need, and where's the best place to buy it?

Great camera, I have the SD500 myself.  Look on www.newegg.com for a SD card that is one gig and a decent name brand.  www.newegg.com/Product/ProductList.asp?N=2010170068+1053107930&Submit=ENE&SubCategory=68

There are half a dozen high speed cards on there.

There is one name brand one.

Here is another:

This high speed flash offering is great for digital camera use, cell phones and pda's and incorporates ultra low power consumption for extended battery life ... all in an extremely small, portable and durable package! (roughly the size of a postage stamp)

Guess my search criteria was too specific.

Pardon my ignorance again, but how do you know those cards are compatible with a Canon SD550?

Storage Media: SD/MMC Card

ETA:  SD is secure digital, the most common media for digicams these days.  All of the cards shown in the links above are SD.
