| I moved to a new place that is using a Belkin wireless router. I have a D-link airplus G wireless card in my computer. I've never had a problem connecting to a router other then Belkin. I need to fix it this time though. It says it's connected to the router with a good signal, but it isn't transferring data. I can connect to a neighbors router and it runs fine, albeit slow. WTF is it with Belkin routers and my card that keeps them from working with each other. The main computer that the router is hooked up to runs fine. A roommates computer using wireless is running fine. But mine doesnt want to receive data. Anyone know of a fix? |

o-k.............network connections.....................on left of window click on view network connections..................right click on wireless connection.....go down to properties...........box will pop up with 3 tabs 1) general 2) wireless networks 3) advanced...................click on wireless networks tab and check box at top use windows etc... then look at preferred networks and move up or down to get the router you want to connect to at the top of list. if it asks you for a wep key you will need to enter it. you may need to highlight preferred network and click properties. let me know. going back upstairs now oh and reboot if you make changes |
It could be one of several things. As mentioned, it could be a WEP issue, SSID, Proxy settings, TCP/IP settings. What I would recommend is that you set all of these on your computer to match a computer that can connect to the network and see if that fixes your problem. |
Well all that really does is make it connect to that router first. It's still not transferring data though. It's gotta be some kind of hardware problem between the two. I've had this problem with a belkin router a few months ago and just trashed it. Unfortunately I can't do that with this one as it's not mine. I wonder if Belkin routers have some kind of built in wep or some other preset that differs from all the other routers out there. Ill check on the other computer tomorrow to see its settings. Thanks for helping though. |

when you click view wireless connections in range or whatever it is and click refresh does it show up with a padlock icon? don't forget to reboot and did you make it so windows will manage the connection? small box above preferred network box also sometimes mine will do weird things like stop transferring and I just unplug the dsl modem and wireless router plug back in and reboot computer and that fixes it. |
