I'm in the market to buy a grill. Looking for a gas grill, $400 or less. I live by myself, so I don't need a monster grill with 6 seperate burners. Right now I'm looking at Webers. Any comments?

I got this after I got married and am happy with it.  For the price you can't beat how much stuff it does.  It's perfect for up to 4 people to cook steaks/burgers, etc on.  You can also smoke meat/chicken and fry fish with it.  We bought the deep bowl turkey fryer to go with it but haven't got to use it yet.  I like charcoal, but when I'm feeling lazy or want to eat quick I'll use gas.   I also like the auto starter on it and temp guage,  something that a charcoal only weber won't have.

The Premium 7-in-1 Smoker/Cooker combines gas smoker, charcoal smoker, gas grill, charcoal grill, camp stove, deep fryer and seafood boiler into a single unit. The 19" LP gas cooker with hose, regulator and 45,000-BTU burner fires up with a simple push of a Piezo ignition system. Dome-mounted heat indicator helps you regulate the heat as needed for efficient, even cooking. Two porcelain-coated cooking racks let you cook up to 50 lbs. of meat on two cooking levels. Deep, 10-1/2-qt. fryer/boiling pot and perforated basket included. Split-body design for easy access. Drop-in stainless wood access door. Rustproof stainless steel finish. Gas cylinder not included.

The Weber Genesis Silver A might fit your bill. It's a smaller no-frills grill but it's a Weber and better than most out there.

I just bought a Vermont Castings grill from Home Depot for $399 just a couple of months ago.  It is sweet.

It has very heavy ceramic-coated cast-iron grates -- great for retaining heat after the food hits the grill so you get a much better sear.
Three high-quality burners with electric ignition.
A good metal shield between the burners and the grates prevents flare-ups and evenly distributes the heat.

It cooks very evenly, and it can get VERY hot for a great sear.  It is very solidly constructed, and I can't recommend it enough.  A side burner would have been nice, but it's not something I'd use all that often.

And it was $100 cheaper than a comparable Weber.

I just got a Weber Genesis C a few months ago and I love it. I also looked at the Vermont Castings and the only reason I choose the Weber was the possibility I'd be more able to get parts 5+ years from now.

don't do gas, food doesn't taste half as good.  get one of those big green eggs or a black egg (a knock-off, but still a high quality product)  SOOOOOOOO much better! please believe me, i'm from texas and grilling is in by blood.

My comment? Gas grills should be secondary. Got a good charcoal/wood grill already?

I have a Vermont Castings and could not be happier. Built like a tank, great quality unit, not too over done and made in the U.S. home depot should have them.

Yep, stop looking. You're in he right place.

While your friends will be on their second or third cheap grill, your Weber will still be in it's early years.

I've got a Weber Genesis Silver B, 8 years old, I've only had to replace the flavorizer bars once which is like $20.

Weber. Been through three sets of grates, one ignitor, and one set of burners over a 12 year period. We use ours 2-3 times a week year round in Northern NJ. They're built like a brick shit house.

Looks like Weber is the answer.

For the charcoal guys... I love charcoal too, but I don't always have the time to spend getting the coals prepared, etc. Gas = quick and easy when I need it.

You won't be dissapointed ... Try following the "Weber Method" of cooking (Preheat, sear, flip once, keep the lid closed) if you've never cooked on a good quality grill ... The idea is to let the grill do the cooking, not the grease fire.

Once you've cooked on a Weber, it will become physically painful for you to go to a friends house and watch them cook on a cheap Wally World special grill ... Cover wide open, smoke billowing everywhere, grease fire 8 feet tall, frantically trying to get all of the food on the 2 square inches of cooking surface that's actually hot, while the rest of the surface is cold to the touch, and so on.
