Found the old SWAT series too ... was a teen when that one came out.

That one ... stuck.

Been at it almost 20 years now.

Where did the time go?

I thought they were 1919's but man it's been a long time since I've seen that show. I might have to hit wallyworld tomorrow in search. They used to play them on a local channel in the 80's, think it was channel 30 in Nashville area.

Yeah Rat patrol, Combat...
We didn't have color tv for years.
In my neighborhood, most families only had one tv. I thought it was unreal when one of my friends dad bought them a tv with a remote.

According to this site, Rat Patrol site, it was all filmed in the deserts of Spain.
"The Rat Patrol-ran for two seasons, a total of 56 color episodes, on ABC from September 12, 1966 to September 16, 1968. The show starred Christopher George as Troy, and Eric Braden as Dietrich; writers included Larry Cohen and Lorenzo Semple Jr.

An immeasurable benefit to the series was its being filmed on location in the deserts of Spain. The production was even able to utilize vehicles and props left over from big-budget WW II spectacles previously shot in Spain, such as Battle of the Bulge and The Great Escape. Such visual realism offset the storylines' frequent improbabilities.

This show was one entry in a spate of war programs broadcast in the late '60s. Others included Combat!, Garrison's Gorillas, Hogan's Heroes, 12 O'clock High, and Jericho. The popularity of such fare seems incongruous with the fact that the Vietnam conflict was at its height and was rapidly losing public support."

Well, apparently they also filmed some scenes at Imperial Dunes. The camera had labelling indicating that it was from Rat Patrol. I'll have to see if he has a pic - he sold the camera long ago. They also filmed some scenes from some of the Star Wars movies there, and many others where they needed a "Sahara" backdrop such as "Flight of the Phoenix".

As the Greaseman would say there goes the geezer alarm.I thought I was the only one to remember those shows. You know the 60's were not all that bad were they. When toy guns and military figures were cool to own and shooting without blood was ok.  'Your what it's all about Green Beret.'   John Wayne from the same movie.

When I was in OIF, I was a MK-19 gunner and it was our job to patrol the desert for several miles around the base and pull convoy security every once and awhile.  One day we were driving and I made the comment, "Man this is just like the Rat Patrol."  All I got was a bunch of stares and "Huh, what?"  I just shook my head and said nevermind.  Bunch of kids, now if I said, Ninja Turtles, their little ears would all perk up.  Im 33 and I remember watching that show on the local TV station after school.

Its just like talking about the M-60 machine gun, all I get are blank stares with these kids.

The toy guns were way friggin' cool back then too. Realistic as hell. You could get them at all the stores. No red ended muzzle loaders that look like a Cub scout whittled them out ...

Kids next door had a couple of Thompsons that looked just like the real thing. Nine kids. The four oldest ALL went to VN. One to each branch Army, Navy, Air Force and Marines. Their Dad fought with Patton.

We would have never dreamed of touching Dad's real ones much less pointing a real one at someone.

His real name was Hans Gudegast during the Rat Patrol days he changed it later to Eric Braeden so as not to have a to German sounding name.
