Any Opeth fans around Arfcom?
I am up late listening to them.
Just wondering if anyone else has heard of them, or like them.

They are one of the best...if not the most talented and original bands in metal. Awesome stuff.

Another fan here.
Saw em when they came with Sounds of the Underground and on their own tour after that.
I don't think I'd call them black metal though.

Funny incident - driving back from my grandma's farm with my mom, I played her the Opeth album "Damnation".  Really great progressive disc,  fairly soft, good melodies.   Actually all of my family likes that CD (though I don't think they realize how dark the lyrics are).

Then I played "Ghost of Perdition" off of Ghost Reveries.  She nearly jumped out of the car when the growling started at ~8seconds in!

'Blackwater Park' was their best IMO. Nothing after that really caught me. Mikael also lent vocals on Katatonia's 'Brave Murder Day'.

So what should I buy for starters? Blackwater Park and Damnation?

Not a bad band, I like Type O Negative better though. A tour with both those bands would be nice.trashcan

Damnation (softer, progressive) and Deliverance (pretty damn heavy) are pretty much polar opposites,  if I remember correctly, they were also written and recorded around the same time.

Blackwater Park is a good blend, it has one of my favorite songs of their's "The Funeral Portrait".

You really can't go wrong with any of those listed.

I'd start off with Blackwater Park and Still Life. Metal Archives is a great resource for any metal band you can think of in any genre. Pictures, reviews, release info, etc.

Im a big fan of In Flames, before about 2004. Everything since 2004 has not really sat well with me.

I'd have to go with "The Baying of the Hounds" my favorite Opeth song.

"Demon of the Fall" is my favorite Opeth song.
