Can you give somebody a firearm as a gift in another state?

For example Grandpa lives in West Virginia.

Grandson lives in Kentucky.

Grandpa wants to give grandson his old .22 LR rifle as a gift.

Is that legal?

How long has grandpa had the rifle?  (Hint: before GCA1968?)

Yeah, as long as they do the transfer through an FFL.

I'll get jumped on for CoC, but Fuck them.  Give it to the grandson next time you see him.  I am sick to death of the "permission seekers" who bow to the bureaucrats for everything without using the slightest smattering of common sense.  Technically, it is a violation.  I would not advocate it in the case of anyone but family.  There is no record of the sale to begin with.  No, you cannot mail it, it would have to be in person.  But, the paperwork mill?  Time to say again Fuck them.  No, I am not given to gratuitous vulgarity, but I am getting sick and tired, in addition to crabby in my old age.

And, when the moderators want to jump me for advocating an illegal act, I am advocating even more "illegal acts" as the idiocy grows. You remember all the fuss about the recitation of the "Pledge of Allegiance?"  Well, in the NAtional Anthem, I would agree with someone refusing to sing the "Land of the Free" part.

I don't think he was asking what you WOULD do,
but rather what was required by law.

You can do whatever you want, as long as you don't get caught.

But by law, the transfer must go through an FFL if the two of you live in different states.

I sold a rifle to a guy I work with.  I lived in Illinois, he lived in Iowa.

I trust him completely, but I still did the transfer through an FFL.

I sleep better knowing I don't have to worry about something coming back
and biting me in the ass later.
