Pulling the meter will open the leads, and then you can change the main. But this can get you in trouble with your service provider for tampering with their equipment. If you call them and explain what you'll be doing, they'll send someone out to pull the meter for you - usually at no cost to you. As for the main size, just replace what's in there: the 100. Pulling the meter will kill the power. It may be illegal for you to do it. That being said there is a metal ring around the base of the meter, and the power company seal. after the ring is removed the meter pulls out. It would be nice to put an AMP meter on it to see if the load was high enough to trip the breaker, as opposed to tripping because of heat from a bad connection. Replace with same rating breaker. And be carefull. |
