I can't get to many websites at work, including this one.  I've been told that if I use an anonymous browsing website I could get to other websites that would normally be blocked.  I tried searching Google, but any site I found either wanted money or didn't seem to work well.

Anyone know of a site?

Try connecting through a proxy.  If your work does not want you coming here then you probaly should not come.

Wikipedia it.

It wont prevent you from getting the cookies or history on your local machine though. Essentially if they want to catch you for something they will.

Couple things to consider.  First, if they have web filtering software then it is likely they will be filtering out the proxy sites and anonymous web browsing sites.  Secondly, even if you use such a proxy, unless you can find one that is encrypted (not likely), they can still see the traffic on their network sensors.  So, this means that if they are hardasses and want to come down on you for what you're browsing, they will still be able to see it.

My personal solution to this type of thing is to run a Linux box with ssh access.  If you can ssh to that box, you can tunnel traffic over the session to a proxy on your home computer.  This is a nice solution because there is almost no noticeable latency while browsing and all traffic is encrypted back to your own computer which is making the web requests. Now, if you don't know the first thing about proxies I don't expect that will do you much good.

I thought there were websites you can go to and type the address into and then the site will come up on their page?

Those sites will probably be filtered in the same way that this one is.

Also, if you are crusing sites that your work doesn't want you to cruise on, using proxies or other means and they still catch you, it will look even worse for you as you were actively trying to defeat their network security, you wouldn't be able to use a "I didn't know" defense.

Try the SSH tunneling if you are not afraid of getting caught.  Maybe you could leave your home computer on with port 23 open and Telnet to it.  Then surf the internet throught that box.  OR Do a remote desktop connection to your home computer.  You would have to enable it and then get your IP address.  Then you just connect.  I am sure someone here will be able to explain it better.  Network engineers maybe.  TRy googleing remote desktop connection that should help.  It's how I learned back when I did stuff like that.  For the record I no longer engage in said activities.  Here is a good link.  LINK

I can't access AR15.com or Jobrelatedstuff.com at work(Jobrelatedstuff.com is classified as a weapons site. Hmmm That's a surprise )

When I'm at work I just use Remote Desktop to connect to my computer at home and then browse from my computer.

If you have WindowsXP Pro you can enable to remote desktop option for your computer.
You will also need the Remote Desktop or Terminal Services client on your computer at work(which may not be installed or accessable) an alternative would be to connect though a Web based TS client(no need for software on the terminal). Information regarding this setup can be found here at microsoft

If it's way to technical no bid deal. If your feeling adventerous have at it.

FWIW, I tried the Anonymiser... it seemed to work OK, but when the trial period ran out and I tried to delete it, it somehow turned off a part of Norton, which I had to reinstall. I'd avoid it.

Try this one instead:

http://the-cloak.com/anonymous-surfing-home.html

I use it to read a board that has my I.P. blocked, and it works just fine. The number of sessions per day is limited, however, unless you pay for unlimited use.

Anonymouse

Don't think it will let you login either...

The other option is to do a remote administartion connection to your home computer from work....

Question for the guys that deal with this stuff...does the blocking happen at the dns level? Can't you just connect by manually typing in the ip address? (write it down when you are home and keep it at work). I doubt the ip changes much, if at all.

They just put "content filtering" on our work machines.  But they only filter non-PC time waste sites (like gun sites and pr0n).  But if you wanna spend the day on sports, food, wine forums, no problem.

BTW ar15.com has been a huge help for me in my job.  I find out about breaking news here faster than on drudgereport, and I have gotten info on many work-related things here.
