Who carries an ASP Expandable Baton? Who keeps one at the ready (in the car, by the bed, etc.)? I'm just looking for info on them, are they the best brand of expandable batons? What size is optimal? Etc. Any info is appreciated! |
|
i use to carry one (in conjunction w/ FOX spray)...till i got my CCW imo, they are the best brand out there (stay away from the chicom, POSes!)--manadocks are pretty good too for duty use, the 26" is the best (imo), but for carry, i prefer the 21"--the 16" was a tad too short for my liking the std. black is nice, but i prefer to carry the featherweight |
Make sure they are legal in your jurisdiction. Aside from that, they are pretty cool. Better than fingernails. |
Is the featherweight weaker? Would I have to worry about it breaking if I ever had to use it? |

Be advised that in some states, carrying one of those things is considered the same as carrying a concealed firearm. They're neat. I sure as hell don't wanna get popped by one. Don't cheap out - my Uncle gave me an el-cheapo no-name extending baton. It wouldn't stay locked in place, but at the time (I was a little kid, maybe 10 or 11) I thought it was the coolest thing in the world. |
|
I keep one by the bed(in the stand) and one downstairs under the phone. The wife knows how to use it...we'll take the consequences as long as we are safe. Chav She even knows to stick to primary and secondary zones first |

You don't happen to be 19 years old, have twenty people who want to kick your ass, and live in Maryland? www.ar15.com/forums/topic.html?b=1&f=5&t=479626 DEERSNIPER: Hi does anyone know where I can buy an extendable baton (ASP) in Northern Maryland or Southern PA?? Thanks for any and all help, Dan. |

I carry one everyday at work, concealed. I was issued a Featherweight 16" but I carry my personally owned 21" steel baton. The 16" is just too light. I want to know that what I'm swinging is the most steel I can fit in a given space. From what I understand, the Winchester batons are far better than the ASPs, but they're also heavier and thicker, so they're harder to conceal. |
Sure you didn't post the same thing last night???? Yup. Hopefully the ASP will make them think twice, or if it comes to it, finish the fight. Theres no real way to avoid what is coming i'm afraid. Hey thanks for the info. The fine doesn't bother me. The time does though. Oh well better to be judged by 12 . . . . Its not life and death, more like 20 people want to kick the **** out of me. I'm going to lay low for a while, but it isn't just going to blow over. Thanks What am I underage for? I doubt anymore than 5 people show up at once. And it is only 4-5 people really intent on harm, the other ones are just thier friends. Im 19, I don't think I'm a minor. Seems a little coincidental.... |
21" Steel ASP....guns for protection is a no-no here...even though mine are legaly held. The ASP gives us the edge I think. Combined with other household items

I light of 82nds post I'd just like to say in the UK it is illegal to carry an ASP/Batton in public. In the home is a different ball game....but necessary force dictates that if the intruder was unarmed and you beat him within an inch of his life with an ASP it'd be your ass. Taffy |
What's with all the bullshit coming from you people? My first post asking a simple question and I'm getting accused from all angles about doing illegal things and being different people. WTF is wrong with you? |
Quoted: 21 inch steel ..very handy/easy to wield |
Nothing. And you might wanna look at 82nd's title. Several people who know better (excluding me; I dunno shit) are simply forewarning you to tread lightly when it comes to those batons, 'cause in a lot of places, they are flat out illegal to carry or they're considered the same as carrying a concealed firearm. This might matter to you if you keep one in your car for whatever reason and run into some unsavory characters that you've gotta use that thing against. Wanna keep one in your home? Knock yerself out (not literally). Do your homework before you even consider keeping one on your person or in your vehicle though. "Self defense" nowadays can easily turn into "assault" and jail time for the defender. |
Yes, I understand you are looking for information. A couple of members provided information that it may be illegal to possess a baton in your state - that you should check your local laws. That's good information - and sound advice. You reply that you aren't worried about laws. That's not very wise. You could ruin your chances of owning firearms if you get caught carrying an illegal weapon. And there is nothing "the fuck wrong with me." I'm merely giving you a fair warning. Either heed it or go away. |

I have a 16" ASP AIRWEIGHT (aluminum) and my 21" steel ASP from my old Sam Brown rig. I also have a Retired LEO Commission card from Oklahoma and a current PI-Firearms Authorized license which allows me to carry a firearm OR baton concealed. In Oklahoma, the standard CCW does NOT grant priviledge to a citizen to carry an ASP. ASP guarantees all of their expandable batons for life, so if your partner bent hers in academy, send it back to them and they will fix it free. Please check your local laws before carrying one. |

I keep a Beretta and a 14" shotgun beside the bed. Since by definition a home intruder means deadly force, I don't see any reason to screw around with a baton. Carrying an ASP is an outstanding way to get shot. Even if that does not happen you are going to have a heck of a time passing that thing after it's shoved up your nether regions. ![]() Heck, I'm a trainer for the darn thing, carried one for years because it was a required piece of the uniform, and I'd throw it away in a heart beat for a nice old style PR-24. You've recieved some very sound advice on here, I suggest you heed it. |

I wanted to carry a asp baton but there they are no total legal in VA. You can have one if your on your property or at work but can't carry anywhere else, so there is no point to a $60 - $80 dollar expense(if someone breaks into your house they will meet Mr. firearm, not Mr baton) That leaves me with a ASP palm defender(OC spray) and a glock 21 or 30. Instead of a baton, consider a cold steel cane. Nothing wrong with carrying a walking cane. |
|
I also carry an ASP baton at work, we carry the 21" standard. Some of our guys have the stainless/nickel and some the blued steel. At my last department one of our guys bent a 21" on a guys forearm who was breaking into the police department. The guy was bi-polar/manic and hopped up on meds and street drugs. I have a buddy on another department who carries (I think) the 16" and it's just too small for me to feel comfortable reaching out and touching somebody with it. I'd prefer the 24" since I've used the side-handle baton for 17 years now, but you use what your issued. I'd get monadnock, or ASP, stay away from the imitators. Check legal requirements in your jurisdiction. |
Yeah but one of these won't draw attention. ![]() It's nothing more than a cane. |
And this concerns you because?? |
Asp batons are illegal in CA for us common peasants![]() If it is for home use, just get a cheap baseball bat, or better yet, make your own bone-cracking beatin' stick. Find some scrap 1/2"-3/4" rebar, cut it to 20-22" and wrap one ene with some leather or paracord for a handgrip.
|
Yup, I believe she did send it in for a replacement. I just thought it was an interesting occurence. |
|
In CA, carrying a baton will get you a felony, while CCW without a permit is a misdemeanor (if you're not a gang member or commiting a crime). Of course, a maglight or any other blunt instrument could be considered a baton. I never understood the logic behind that. |
Logical weapon law is an oxymoron. |
