What he said.. Its a codec issue.... www.k-litecodecpack.com/ |
No, it doesn't give me any messages. It won't play any video from any website. |
Odd, considering its free... Try this link www.free-codecs.com/download/K_Lite_Mega_Codec_Pack.htm |
I downloaded that, it still doesn't work. Scott |
|
www.winamp.com/ Download the free version - no need to download Codec's - it opens everything that WMP does. You also get a notification automatically whenever an update is available. |
It still doesn't work. |
|
What the hell are you trying to play? All else fails try VLC www.videolan.org/vlc/ THAT doestn work, your file is hosed. |
Any video, they all don't work. |
I haven't tried downloading and saving to my computer, then try to play it. I'm just trying to open it from the internet. What settings should I look at? |
|
Go to: "Options" "Internet Options" And go through the tabs as see what is enabled/disabled. Under the "Advanced" tab, make sure Java is enabled (if this just started happening, you can "restore defaults" and see if it goes away). Or just download another browser, like Opera www.opera.com/ or Firefox www.mozilla.com/firefox/ My IE has a problem with Flash 8 (it is installed but doesn't work, and it won't let me reinstall it), so I opened Opera and installed it there and it works fine - whenever I get something that doesn't open in IE, I switch over and it works fine. |
Have you tried playing a video you know is good? |
|
I would say it's time for a new computer - what are the specs on yours? You can build a new one, I got this for $800 (including the case with cooling fans, USB ports, etc), but you can probably put it together cheaper if you buy all the parts http://www.tigerdirect.com/ and have someone put it together for you if you don't know how (the only hard thing is wiring the USB ports from the case to the motherboard - everything else plugs in): Pentium 4 - 3.0 ASUS P4P800-E Deluxe motherboard 512 MB PC3200 DDR Ram Dual layer DVD burner ASUS A9250 video card (good enough as long as you don't play games) 120 gig S-ATA hard drive (Useless) floppy drive Power supply Antec case http://www.fbody.com/members/shocktrp/PC001.jpg http://www.fbody.com/members/shocktrp/PC002.jpg http://www.fbody.com/members/shocktrp/PC003.jpg (Don't hotlink, won't work - copy & paste into browser). Or you can get a DVD burner to replace your CD player for about $50, and you can get a new hard drive for $50-200 depending on how much space you need (an 80 gig or $50 is more than enough unless you store tons of video and music files on it), format it in NTFS, install your operating system on the new HD, and away you go. |
|
NOTE: A reinstall will delete EVERYTHING in your "My Documents" folder, and everything underneath. Be sure to backup anything you want to keep in this directory before you start! Also, it sounds to me like your machine is infected with spyware or viruses. They often shut off access to various built-in Windows functions in an attempt to prevent their removal. This could most likely be repaired by someone with experience at it. -Troy |
Yes, I already have everything backed up. There is nothing on my computer that is important. I just need to know the procedures. |
|
Okay. Boot off the CD. Go into the Setup, delete your old partition(s), and then create a new one, using NTFS. When this is done, and before you continue with the setup, REBOOT. Go back into setup, and install into the new partition. Once you're done, download all of the Windows Updates, using Custom mode to manually select the non-critical components. This will require a few reboots. Then, you're ready to install any other applications you need. I would start with a good antivirus program. AGV is free and good... -Troy |
I have no idea what the blue means. |
This is what I want to do. But I can't seem to find where I put the set of software that came with it. Would another person's XP software work? |
| another persons cd should work but make damn sure you have your product key before you erase your hard drive. They product key should be on a sticker on the back of your laptop. If not. you can get it by downloading belarc advisor. I can send you a copy if you cant find it on the net. Belarc will display your product key. to my knowlege it is the only way to get it out of your machine. Put the disc in the drive and reboot the computer. it will ask you a few easy to answer questions. Like would you like to restore or install a new copy of windows. You want to install a new copy. then it will warn you that you will loose all data. click yes. and go from there./ |
|
Here is how. 1. Go in BIOS and set your CDrom as the first boot device, savbe and exit. 2. Plcae disc in and start computer, press any key at the prompt to boot from Cd 3. hit enter to install, f8 to agree 4. delete all existing partotions, ( follow on screen directions) 5. choose format the drive with NTFS, choose quick as long as you know there is no errors on the drive. 6. Proceed to install when done formating. need help just yell. |
How do I get into BIOS? I have no idea what you are talking about. |
| I would buy a mac next itme you need a new computer.I just bought a macbook and I have windows xp on it and the mac software on the other half of the hard drive. Its really cool to have both on one laptop.I use the windows side for my business and the mac side for photos and using the net(virus free). |
