Does anyone know offhand if Allstate charges any penalties for cancelling a home insurance policy in the middle of the term? I've been shopping around for a better deal, and I found that I can save about $250/year if I switch to Travellers, but I don't want to get zinged with a huge fee or lose the money I've already paid for the rest of this term. I've done some looking around on the net, but I can't find much amid the flood of "Allstate screwed me over and cancelled my policy!" posts. |

Call your agent, he will tell you about any fees, etc. Also it might inspire him to get you the same coverage for less money. I used to threaten my agents with terminating my policies, and I usually (85%) got a better price from said agent for the same, already existing policy. |
I hadn't considered trying to haggle with my existing policy. I'll have to give that a shot. Thanks. |
