Does anyone know offhand if Allstate charges any penalties for cancelling a home insurance policy in the middle of the term?  I've been shopping around for a better deal, and I found that I can save about $250/year if I switch to Travellers, but I don't want to get zinged with a huge fee or lose the money I've already paid for the rest of this term.

I've done some looking around on the net, but I can't find much amid the flood of "Allstate screwed me over and cancelled my policy!" posts.

Call your agent, he will tell you about any fees, etc.

Also it might inspire him to get you the same coverage for less money.  I used to threaten my agents with terminating my policies, and I usually (85%) got a better price from said agent for the same, already existing policy.

I hadn't considered trying to haggle with my existing policy.  I'll have to give that a shot.  Thanks.

I would assume state laws also apply.

What does it say in the policy?
