originally posted this in the handgun forum, but i need an answer quick, so i'll throw this in GD.

i'm looking to buy a pistol online, and was wondering if I could have it sent to a local ffl without me going through the background check/waiting period first.

in other words, can i buy the gun have it transferred and have the store hold onto it while i wait for the waiting period to end?

NO! Gun will have to go to the FFL and he logs it into his books. Then he does the check and you get it.

Edit: You would be better served to check with your state police. Here in Illinois the waiting period starts when you fill out the 4473.
