Dude..... You're screwing your front site the wrong direction. Raise the post lowers the impact. |
|
I'm no expert, but if it's shooting high, I'd think that means your front sight is too low. The standard rifle front sight base is just a hair low for flattops. You can either relplace it with an "f" marked front sight base, or get a slightly taller front sight post. Like this. |
|
Just to explain. As you lower your front sight post, you have to hold the barrel at a higher angle to get that front sight post on target. Therefore, the bullets are going higher. Raise your front site, and you will lower the angle your barrel is pointing, making the bullets go lower. TXL It's ok, I've seen alot of new shooters make that mistake. Now, fix it, and practice. |
I would suggest moving to an area with smarter people then. |
That's because he's an idiot. Raise your front sight. |
Raising the front sight won't really make it shoot lower, it'll just make the sights match up a little better with where the bullet's going to hit. |
do us all a favor and post the names of the ar15 "builders/gunsmiths" in that area, so we can add them to the too stupid for words black list. oh, and if you are going to question free and good advice, then dont ask. |
Huh? Raising the front sight LOWERS the point of impact. This is very basic stuff. |
PLEASE--at least give it a try. You are going to find your "gunsmith" is an idiot. Yes, if it's screwed fully in you could easily be shooting five feet high. Give it a try-- Remember--move your REAR sight the direction you want your bullet's impact to go (down for down, right for right, etc.). The FRONT sight gets moved in the opposite direction. Think real hard about it and you can easily figure it out. If you draw a diagram it is easier--as you lower the front sight the muzzle must be raised to compensate for it--and that RAISES the bullet's point of impact (POI). Again, your "gunsmith" is an idiot. This is so very basic. |
You can conduct a little physical experiment for yourself to prove that if you were to raise the front sight pin, the muzzle of the barrel would be pointing lower. That is assuming you know how to aim and align the sights in the first place. Do you? Edited because the point has been made. |
I made the same mistake this weekend, and my FSB is even marked. Raising the sight post will lower the impact like everyone else said.ETA: I just looked at my FSB again, and its marked UP in a clockwise direction, which would turn the post down........ am I an idiot or does that not make sense when you have to turn it counter clockwise to make the bullet impact go up... Be gentle lol.

LMFAO Chase the impact with the front site. Srew it up. & I mean way up. |
Hmm the smith's in your area can't read the arrow and 'up' markings on the front sight? How about the -10 (operator's manual)? [Hint it's on page 50]. Each click for a carbine is 1.875" at 100M, or 7.5" per rotation; so five feet works out to 8 rotations of the front sight. |

Okay, hold out your two index fingers, one close to you and one far away, and line them up on something like a sight (i.e. right hand rear sight, left hand front sight). Now lower your forward finger towards the ground, keeping your rear finger and your head in place. This simulates you lowering your front sight post. Now line your fingers back up at your original target, not moving your rear hand. Notice you need to "aim" upwards? If the front sight post is lower, your rounds will impact higher! |
![]() That is a point of view perspective. Technically, John is right. The only thing that moves is the sights......not the point of impact which remains constant in relation to the barrel. When adjusting sights, you don't adjust the point of impact to the sights, you adjust the sights to the point of impact. |
I don't say this very often but +1 This reminds me of the local sports columnist that has a contest each week guessing Pro Football Scores with reader guests and occasional celebs. He calls himself SCE, the So-Called Expert. He's about 50-50 with this. The moral. There are Experts and then there are So-Called Experts. |
| Let's see. You are getting one inch groups at 100 yards that are 5 feet high. Must be a fairly large target. As everyone has stated, raising the front sight post lowers the point of impact. You haven't mention what you have been doing with the rear sight. In fact you haen't mention what rear sight you have and what setting you have. Please enlighten us? BTW, your gunsmith is a moron. |
I believe the GG&G is his rear sight. |
I think he deleted all of his posts because they were too embarassing. Shastacles, look at it this way - at least you did not come on here bragging about putting your erect penis on some guy's cheek. |
Be gentle lol.
