I have some video footage that I would like to transfer to my computer. The video camera is a canon zr600 dv and I have it hooked up thru a firewire connection. My video software (NERO and Micro Movie Maker) don't detect an video signal. Is there a way to check if the IEEE 1394 port is working? I have never used it before but both ports front and rear are hooked to the board. I've used the usb ports and when something is attached Windows will recognize it and start the right program. When I hook up this cable it does nothing? Thanks in advance for any help. |

I have two software programs either pick it up. The movie camera is in play back mode. It's playing the video on it's own screen. I'm updating drivers right now for the firewire. This is the first time using this type connection and don't have anything else to try. Maybe a bad cable? |
| I've never had a problem connecting my cameras with firewire. Goto your computer's "Device Manager" and make sure your 1394 controller is installed and working. If you have XP you should have "Image Device" that lists your camera. Under "Device Manager" check and see if anything has the yellow ciricle with an exclaimation mark. If so fix that, reboot, and see if it fixes your problem. |
I searched windows site and this is what I found?

What driver are you using for your IEEE 1394 (FireWire) ports? Having a lot of experience capturing DV tapes to computers, the problem is either that the drivers for the FireWire ports in the computer aren't working right, the FireWire cable is bad, or the FireWire port on the camera has been blown out. Usually it's the driver. Under XP, you can go into Device manager, go to Update Drivers, and pick the Microsoft driver (often you get the Texas Instruments driver by default, which doesn't work with all cameras). When you plug in your camera and move the camera's switch into VCR mode, you should hear the "da-dong" sound of Windows detecting new hardware, and it should show the name of the camera in a pop-up bubble down by the System Tray. You do NOT load any camera-specific drivers for any DV camera. -Troy |

Sorry guys was late last night and went to bed. Thanks for your help firewire is new to me. When I attach the cord I get nothing no sounds or ballons at the bottom. The cord is new I know means nothing but should be good. With the video cord adapter to rca plugs hooked to a TV it plays great. So it has to be the cord board or software. Troy The driver is a Microsoft driver dated 7/01/2001. Version number is 5.1.2535.0. I'm looking for a newer one now. |
| Get Adobe Premiere essentials, or if you wanna spend big bucks get the pro version. They work great. if you are running XP it shout pick up your IEEE 1394 card automatically. windows movie maker will upload your video but it won't be as good as if you did it with premiere. Also make sure you turn your camera ON, and select VCR on the camera. |

Well I tried unplugging the card , uninstalling and reinstalling the card and changing drivers back to sp1 type. My firewire card must be dead. When I return the cord I bought I will see if they will plug it in to something at the store to check operation. Thanks for your help. |
