You walk into or onto your local gun shop/gun range and the employees are wearing concealment body armor under their shirts.   If you could tell they were wearing one at all, would you perceive the shop/range to be unsafe or would it make perfect sense that people working with firearms all day would wear a vest? Thanks for your feedback.

I'd just think they were ARFCOM members and ask what their screen names are.

I don't see it as a problem.  Probably a smart thing to do.  Some dip shit could pull his gun out to show off and have a ND.

Every gun store around here they all openly carry, so body armor would not phase me one bit, probably smart to do so.

I were Body Armor to the range.
My wife thinks I am weird.

IBTP.

I personally could care less if they're wearing it or not.  If I didn't feel safe in there, I would avoid going in the first place.

Seems reasonable.

Is there a catch?

No, no catch.  It's a brewing controversy-one side says it may/will give customers negative perception, but; it makes more than good sense to me.  No really worries about getting shot by a would-be assailant. The concern is getting shot by a careless goof that takes his gun out to show someone and he has "forgotten the one in the chamber".

I would be much less worried about the person behind the counter wearing body armor (employee/business owner) than the stranger who walks into the shop unnanounced w/ a firearm of unknown safety and proceeds to wave it around while discussing the "trigger pull" problem he's been having lately!

Depends on what level. If it's anything below IIIa I'd think they were pikers and take my bidness to a real gun shop.

Considering the idiots out there,You'd be a fool not to wear it,IMO

If I wear going, I probably would also.

You have to figure that if someone is going to rob a gun store, you'd expect lots of shots fired.  Wearing a vest isn't a bad idea and doesn't imply that the store is unsafe.  I've never seen it before, but to each their own.  Plus.....ACCIDENTS HAPPEN.

One of my local shops, the owner was shot before.

Guns do bring criminals around.

I would wear one....Even if I had a shop in the Hamptons.

Was the gimp wearing one also?

Jenn it wouldn't bother me.  I would think they were not only being safe with the unknown traffic that they were modeling what was available too.

I wear body armor to the mall........you know in case a sniper tries to put multiple .308 rounds into my back.

No I wouldn't think they were weird.....unless they were selling jerky and talking about their classified past as a SEAL.

Yes same here - BUT my wife not being a "gun" person WOULD think there was a PROBLEM, IF she KNEW that what she was seeing was in FACT BODY ARMOUR. If we (she and I) visited that store and I identified the ARMOUR, she would definitely ask me WHY, her hair would be up and she'd be tugging at my arm to leave. If I got the chance to 'splain it - I believe she'd be OK with it. Then she would probably ask me to buy ARMOUR for my range visits.

It wouldn't give me a negative perception. I think more places should sell body armor.

Seems smart to me.  The bulletholes in the overhang are proof of some of the idiots that go to firing ranges.

makes sence, if you got into a cab and the cabbie had his seat belt on would you refuse to ride with him because he was expecting an accident.  Lots of idiots come into ranges/gun shops, thwe way most of the shops around here work you could buy a mag and ammo for a gun they have in the counter, go out to your car and load.  Then walk back in a ask to see the gun your mag fits, instant loaded firearm.    Range/gunstore employees without sit awaresness are probably more of a porblem than the smart ones wearing armor.
