Very soon,a high profile situation will occur involving a union trying to organize us.The last time in 1999,several things occurred. 1) Shootings 2) Beatings 3) Air lines cut at truckstops 4) Bricks being thrown through drivers side windows All your basic strong arm tactics practiced by "representatives" of the union. These guys were willing to kill and intimidate us into going union.Union members also took vacation time to stand in front of our yard,to try and block us from doing our job. They would also go to our customers and tell them not to deal with us. Another thing happened,we stood strong and didn't unionize. This all happened in 1999,there was an HBO special about it as well. This time it is going to be a bit differant. For every 5 teamsters retiring, there is one working. Our pension fund is in the hands of one of the worlds biggest companies, fully funded and secure. The Teamsters want our money/pension/dues and I am afraid they are going to do even more damage to us trying to get it.I can't carry at work,so I will basically be a target for the mobsters. So in the coming months when you read about this, just remember, there are a bunch of us that refuse to unionize, and we could use all the support we can get from the public. The title was misleading, there is no question about it.We ARE NOT going to unionize because WE REMEMBER what happened in 1999. |

There is a big union push at work now, teamsters being one of the ones vying for representation. Union organizers got hold of phone lists were calling blind trying to get folks fired up. Heh, they even called up superintendants who led them on, saying "Tell me more!" Oh yeah, the phone list is management and clerical staff. Kinda funny how they are not promising anyone anything. When asked specifics of what the union could do for them, nothing but vague generalizations. All they are looking for are dues paying members who they can do nothing for, except give them a union card in exchange for hefty dues. |
Stay strong Trijicog, use your head and keep out of trouble. I'll pray for you and your colleagues. |

I don't understand. I have been a member of a few unions and also in a "shop" that was debating a union. As I recall I didn't have to talk to anybody and the vote was by secret ballot. Do you have to make a public statement as to your position? How would the pro-union "mobsters" know to target you? Just keep a low profile and vote your conscience. |
