I spent $150 on a pair of their sunglasses about 18 months ago. After about 8 months I found that the the edges were getting cloudy looking, actually more like motor oil in water looking. I took them to the place I bought them and they told me that it was due to heat making the glass de-laminate.

They are this model;

WTF, these are SUN glasses, shouldn't they be able to handle heat?

Anyway, they replaced them and told me to not ever leave them in the car because the heat in there would make the problem worse, faster.

So I have tried to remember that, but on Friday night I forgot them in my truck and Saturday when I found them they had completely de-laminated around the edges, and the right lens had cracked.

This is unbelievable. This was my first pair of expensive (to me), quality (I thought) sunglasses. I had just had lasik and decided that I would give my eyes something better than the $7 cheapos I had been wearing for 30 years.

I just called the place I bought them and was told I would have to go through Ray Ban this time. I called Ray Ban and was told that they only had a 1 year warranty and I would have to pay to have them fixed. Why would I do that just so I can do it again in 8 months.

This was a waste of $150.

Fuck Ray Ban.

Take them to a Lens Crafters and get another new pair (this works).  Then take them to a place you see also sells the exact model.  Say you don't have your receipt but would just like a different model.  Problem solved

My $230 Maui Jims had a similar problem.  They replaced them but I doubt I'll ever buy another expensive pair of sunglasses.

I lost my ray bans, and then bought Oakleys

Edit: From what I remember, Ray Ban had a big warrenty?  Look into that.

I'll never wear anything but Oakleys

Natives.

Lifetime warranty on their lenses, even if you scratch them.

Ray-Ban's quality went in the shitter once Bausch and Lomb sold them.

My Dolce and Gabbanas stay in my truck full time... No problems in 4 years and several vacations to sunny locales.
5/17/2006 12:27:51 PM EDT

Had my Oakleys for over three years.  Not one problem with heat or cold.

That is why I buy the cheap sunglasses. If I screw them up I am only out $9.99.

Fuck Ray Ban and expensive sunglasses.

I have a pair of Natives that I wear for sunny shooting glasses and active outdoor activities. They are great sunglasses, but I prefer a more classic style for daily wear.

Ray Bans warranty is only one year in the U.S.

Now I'm glad I didn't spend the $300 on Maui Jims.

I'm glad I have a set of teardrop top gun motorcycle cop aviators when they were made by B&L.

Problem is that I gave up wearing contacts in favor of prescription glasses again.

I've had the same set of Maui's for 8 years, no issues hot or cold.  Maybe they had a defective lens batch or something.

They have other styles than M-frames. My bro has a cool pair that have a similar shape to the ones in the pic you posted above.

Dig this

Check the Half Jackets, A WIREs, and Whiskers...

I use two pairs of Oakley M frames for my shooting glasses and can't recommend them highly enough to people. They stand by their products too - their customer service is stellar.

150 for the Vuarnet GLASS wraparounds.  Got them in 96- still have them- been dropped, sat on, kicked, punched, axed, steamrollered, etc.  no problems onther than one minor glass nick.  NOT GOOD FOR SHOOTING THOUGH!!!!!(like, glass and such...)

Mine are a no name brand from Bass Pro I paid $10 bucks for about 4-5 years ago.  Best pair I've ever had.

When ever I bought a pair of expensive sun glasses I tend to loose them.  The cheap-o pairs I buy last for ever it seams.

I love my Bolle's.  They are prescription and stay in my car whenever I'm not wearing them.  I've never had any problems with them aside from having to tighten the screws on the frame a couple of times.  I don't know how much they cost though, insurance paid for 'em

Oakley, seriously.

Back home before deployment, I'd never owned a pair of sunglasses over $15.  I always thought Oakley were overpriced and overhyped.
After wearing them and seeing what they can do, I'm a believer.  Not too mention their customer service towards the Military and CS in general is fuckin top notch.

They make the best sunglasses on the market....I have left several pair in my truck with no adverse reactions. In fact when I was in NO, I left two pair in my truck for 5 months. When I got home, my wife picked me up at the airport in my truck, I got in and put my Oakleys on and they were fine....after sitting in my truck in the sun for 5 months straight.

Anf they don't just make the skate punk sunglasses anymore, here's the two pair that I have.....

Damn it.

I bought a pair in '99.  B&L still owned them, and they've been the best pair of sunglasses I have ever had.  I dropped them and broke a lens (glass), and they replaced it for free, even though I told them I dropped them and shattered it.

On Tuesday, I forgot that I had them on top of my coat in the passenger seat of my car, and when I grabbed my coat, I launched them out into the parking lot.  Landed on the lens, on concrete.  Big gouges in the glass.

I guess I'll look to see what else is out there.  When I bought these, B&L was the best I knew of (at normal prices).

Thats all you need.  Workmanship defects will show up in that amount of time, scratches on lenses aren't covered by anybody, and Oakley lenses don't de-laminate.

I stick with the following brands...

1.  Prada  $260

2.  Christian Dior $255

3.  Serengeti $150

Never had a problem with any of them.  I no longer buy Ray Ban...and Oakley.  They are a cheap brand of sunglasses that has stayed popular far too long.  The quality is not where it needs to be for the price.

YMMV

Actually they're pretty lenient on the timing of their warranty. Without getting into details, they stand behind their products 100%. I'm a customer for life so long as they keep it up, and I'm not afraid to proselytize. Seriously. They're that good.

Optical quality, protection (in my M Frames), customer service... they have it all.

I forgot about those, they are nice glasses but they aren't polarized. I was told that it's because they are really designed for pilots and the polarized lenses make it hard to read the new guages and stuff in planes (look at the screen of you PDA or cell phone with polarized lenses to see what I mean).

Oakley, why?
They are virtually non-destructable
They can double as shooting glasses
They protect your eyes from both UV and flying debries (not bullets)
They are OPTICALLY CORRECT (Very Important if you wear your shades often)
They are recommended by Pat Rogers personnelly
They support both our military and law enforcement
They are a US company and their shades are made in USA
They give good deals (find a friend that can purchase them at your friendly PX) to our service men and women.

Very regrettable that I cannot wear Oakleys due to my prescription are beyond what they can make for their lens.
I bought my wife a pair two years ago and she still wear them everyday.

I like my Oakleys and my Raybans.  Where did you buy them from? Sunglass hut is pretty awesome about replacing anything.  I went it a couple years after buying my Oakleys because the nose piece fell off somewhere, and they put a new one on for free.

That's where I bought them.

I have no problem with their service, they made the first replacement very easy. I'll probably buy whatever my new pair is from them.

The Cheapos have always given me a headache with extended wear. Despite the problems I'm having now with my Ray Bans, I could wear them all day with zero discomfot.

I had a similar warranty issue with my carbon fiber frame Oakleys due to the "in the car heat problem".  Needless to say Oakley no longer offers that particular model in carbon fiber....

I have a pair of Ray Bans purchased in 1978 that show no signs of what you are talking about, They still look great.
The little screws that hold the arms on kept comming loose until I Lok-tited them, Other than that no problems whatsoever.
I purchased a pair of "CODE" polarized sunglasses(I think I paid $120) around 10 years ago & they held up fine also.
