My wife and I are decorating for our first baby, due in August.  The theme of his room is going to be airplanes.  We have purchased some nice paintings and lithos for the walls, and I bought a lamp last week that is a biplane.

I want to hang a large plane from the ceiling, like the display models I see in hobby stores with about a 4 foot wingspan.  This will not need to be a functional model.

I am experienced with foam composite sandwich construction, as I am building a full size plane out of that material.  Most planes I see in hobby stores seem to be balsa, and I'd hate to have to mess with that building method, plus covering, etc.

I will also need a "fake" engine, since this will only ever hang from the ceiling.

Any suggestions on what to buy?  I would ideally like something that looks like a Piper Cub.

I would also be willing to buy something like this from an Arfcommer who loves to build.

I would go with one of the foam planes.  A nice piper cub would be nice.  should cost you less then $100 for a parts plane. You just fab some of the missing pieces with foam and paint it.

GWS cub/warbird oughta fit the bill. Styro and plastic. Goes together in about 2 hours.....They're electric, so no need to worry about an engine.
