We're having an active "discussion" here at work over the HCI and similar "facts" about the number of guns used in crimes and murders and the like. Anybody got any links or stats close by? Preferably someone other than the NRA website.

You are in florida.  Just kindly point out that being armed might make a difference between riding out a big storm in relative comfort or losing everything to looters who think you might have food and a 50 inch plasma.

Done. How can you argue with a person who owns a handgun, but thinks all firearms should be outlawed, as well as hunting?

Just tell your coworker to bury his nose back in the double-latte-mocha-expresso and pretend that driving a Jetta and owning Grateful Dead albums will make him impervious to crime.

Some people don't deserve to understand, I think.
