“To me, CQB is an animal alone. Carl Cestari and his crew have some very good thoughts on the nature of it, but I think they call it CQC. The basic philospohy is much like that of Yeager's monkey stomping - you do what you have to to win. And winning means the loser is dead.

The key word for me in CQB is "battle" - which implies to me to the death. There is no surrendering in CQB - by the time the BG drops his weapon or raises is hands to surrender - he will have 3-4 pairs of double taps from crotch to eyeball. If he wanted to surrender, he should have done it before the breach. Its not about control, its about complete domination - again, somebody has to die. Same thing with CQC - combat.

Somebody said on the thread about the Taser something along the lines of "Our objective is to control the situation, apprehend the suspect, prevent loss..." Those kinds of things. In the military, the saying goes "To close with and destroy the enemy." So there are two entirely different objectives. If you look at it like a big picture - those two are the political objectives. The strategies are to either to kill only if no other choice exists or to kill as a first and only choice. The tactics can cross over and will, but the objectives and the strategies will forever remain apart. And that is a good thing. On the same thread the comment was made "We often see the guy again we arrested yesterday." That is another difference with the military - I ain't doin' that. I've never had to shoot the same guy on different days. I have also heard that a coperator op is considered successful if nobody gets hurt, the suspect stands trial and is convicted.
