denver & the west "666" sense: Date marked with caution While some say June 6, 2006, is a day to fear for its biblical significance, officials see little to dread. By Howard Pankratz Denver Post Staff Writer DenverPost.com With June 6, 2006, rapidly approaching, authorities in Colorado and elsewhere are carefully watching to see if that date - 6/6/06 - spurs demonstrations or violent activity. They are aware that 666 signifies the Mark of the Beast or the Antichrist to some organizations and believe June 6 is a date that could trigger problems. "It's been a conscious question among some of our folks, so they've been on the lookout for something," said Lance Clem, spokesman for the Colorado Department of Public Safety. "But they haven't seen anything." Even so, some local police are being vigilant. "The bottom line is that our intelligence unit is familiar with 666 and its significance, but we don't have any information about anything taking place in Colorado Springs," said Lt. Rafael Cintron of the Colorado Springs Police Department. "However, we are certainly keeping our feelers out to see if anything is happening." Some dates and anniversaries can be calls to action for white supremacists, racists, and conspiracy and prophecy theorists. April 19, for example, is the anniversary of the raid on the Branch Davidian compound in Waco, Texas; the Oklahoma City bombing; and the raid on white separatist Randy Weaver's home at Ruby Ridge, Idaho. The Number of the Beast, 666, is mentioned in the Bible's book of Revelation and is believed by some to be when the Antichrist will exercise power over Earth. The Internet is full of websites that predict terrible things could happen June 6. One website warns that the "Bible Code says 2006 A.D. is the Year of the Beast" and predicts that the Antichrist will reveal himself. It also says there may be a holy war against Israel and that the United States and Russia would be drawn into a dangerous conflict as a result. Several major law enforcement agencies in the Denver metro area have seen no signs of trouble and aren't planning to beef up manpower. Since 1970, there have been 60 terrorist attacks on June 6, with just one in the U.S., according to the Memorial Institute for the Prevention of Terrorism in Oklahoma City. Chip Ellis, the institute's research and program coordinator, said he has seen nothing to indicate anything bad will happen June 6. If something does develop, Ellis does not believe it would necessarily involve neo-Nazi, white- supremacist types. Rather it could be "anarchists and anti-globalists" who are tied into the counterculture and relish "the chance to stick their thumb in the eye of the establishment," he said. Laird Wilcox, a Kansas-based expert on domestic extremist groups, believes dates can be overemphasized. He cites in particular the concern about the year 2000. "What I see happening is something like the millennium controversy where everybody was talking about it and then nothing happened," he said. "I think this has occurred on every anniversary. Everybody anticipates some catastrophe, and nothing ever occurs." But Kerry Noble, a Texas businessman whose life has changed dramatically since the days he was second in command of a paramilitary religious group known as the Covenant, the Sword and the Arm of the Lord, said June 6 carries much significance to fringe groups that may be looking to make a statement. "Numbers are important in the movement," Noble said. "So anything you could interpret as being symbolic would be even more important. So a symbolic date like June 6 of this year, being 666, would have the equivalence of a 9/11 date or an April 19 date." Clearly. Just like every other end-times prediction since 30AD or so. |
You have your thoughts, and I have mine. Hard to argue either way. Guess we'll find out, huh? Have a great evening. HH |
Pretty funny when you consider that the Bible itself says that only God knows the timing. But I've known lots of Christians who got sucked into "bible code" and numerology crap to try and predict the second coming. It ain't nostradamus, guys! All the prophecy in it is in black and white. You don't need to unlock some secret squirrel code to get the message! |
You're right. It'll never happen...my mistake. Have a nice night, skippy-and find someone else to stalk! HH |

If you live in the deep south anywhere remotely near either the gulf of mexico or the atlantic ocean then do yourself a favor and forget all of the "hocus pocus" 666 stuff. Instead make yourself more useful by concentrating on (and preparing for) the following relavent information: 17 Named Storms / 9 Hurricanes / 5 classified as Major Updated Forecasts for 2006 are issued : Tuesday April 4, 2006 (this one) Wednesday May 31, 2006 - (coincide / official Hurricane Season June 1st) Thursday August 3, 2006 - August-only Thursday September 3, 2006 - September-only Tuesday October 1, 2006 - October-only Complete Forecasts of 2006 Atlantic basin TC activity are available at: http://typhoon.atmos.colostate.edu/forecasts/ ACTUAL COLORADO STATE PRESS RELEASE DENVER April 4, 2006 - EXTENDED RANGE FORECAST OF ATLANTIC SEASONAL HURRICANE ACTIVITY AND U.S. LANDFALL STRIKE PROBABILITY FOR 2006 We continue to foresee another very active Atlantic basin tropical cyclone season in 2006. Landfall probabilities for the 2006 hurricane season are well above their long-period averages. (as of 4 April 2006) By William M. Gray and Philip J. Klotzbach with assistance from William Thorson [This forecast as well as past forecasts and verifications are available via the World Wide Web: http://hurricane.atmos.colostate.edu/Forecasts] - also, Brad Bohlander and Thomas Milligan, Colorado State University Media Representatives (970-491-6432) are available to answer various questions about this forecast. Department of Atmospheric Science Colorado State University Fort Collins, CO 80523 Email: mailto:[email protected] ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ Estimates For 2006 : (as of 4 April 2006) 9 Hurricanes (average is 5.9) 17 Named Storms (average is 9.6) 85 Named Storm Days (average is 49.1) 45 Hurricane Days (average is 24.5) 5 Intense Hurricanes (Category 3-4-5) (average is 2.3) 13 Intense Hurricane Days (average is 5.0) Hurricane Destruction Potential (HDP) of 100 (average is 71) Net Tropical Cyclone Activity (NTC) (100%) 195 ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ ABSTRACT Information obtained through March 2006 continues to indicate that the 2006 Atlantic hurricane season will be much more active than the average 1950-2000 season. We estimate that 2006 will have about 9 hurricanes (average is 5.9), 17 named storms (average is 9.6), 85 named storm days (average is 49.1), 45 hurricane days (average is 24.5), 5 intense (Category 3-4-5) hurricanes (average is 2.3) and 13 intense hurricane days (average is 5.0). The probability of U.S. major hurricane landfall is estimated to be about 55 percent above the long-period average. We expect Atlantic basin Net Tropical Cyclone (NTC) activity in 2006 to be about 195 percent of the long-term average. This early April forecast is based on a newly devised extended range statistical forecast procedure which utilizes 52 years of past global reanalysis data. Analog predictors are also utilized. We have maintained our forecast from our early December prediction as the Atlantic Ocean, although cooling slightly with respect to climatology, remains anomalously warm and central and eastern tropical Pacific sea surface temperatures anomalies have continued to cool. Currently, weak La Niña conditions are observed. We expect either neutral or weak La Niña conditions to be present during the upcoming hurricane season. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Official 2006 Atlantic Basin Hurricane Season : JUNE 1st TO NOVEMBER 30th -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- It includes Tropical Storms and Hurricanes In the Atlantic Ocean / Caribbean Sea / Gulf of Mexico OF INTEREST Notice of Author Changes - Beginning with this forecast, the order of the authorship of these forecasts has been reversed from Gray and Klotzbach to Klotzbach and Gray. After 22 years (since 1984) of making these forecasts, it is appropriate that I step back and have Phil Klotzbach assume the primary responsibility for our project’s seasonal, monthly and landfall probability forecasts. Phil has been a member of my research project for the last five years and has been second author on these forecasts for the last four years. I have greatly profited and enjoyed our close personal and working relationships. Phil is now devoting more time to the improvement of these forecasts than I am. I am now giving more of my efforts to the global warming issue and in synthesizing my projects’ many years of hurricane and typhoon studies. Phil Klotzbach is an outstanding young scientist with a superb academic record. I have been amazed at how far he has come in his knowledge of hurricane prediction since joining my project five years ago. I foresee an outstanding future for him in the hurricane field. I expect he will make many new forecast innovations and skill improvements in the coming years. I plan to continue to be closely involved in the issuing of these forecasts for the next few years. (November 2005) tropical.atmos.colostate.edu/forecasts/ Hurricanes are classified into FIVE different categories according to the Saffir-Simpson scale Hurricane Categories Saffir-Simpson scale Hurricanes can also spawn severe weather such as tornadoes as they move inland |
Thats the funniest fucking thing Ive seen on the internet all year.

I'm not concerned. Let's see there was an 06/06/06 in; 1906, 1806, 1706, 1606, 1506, 1406, 1306, 1206, 1106, 1006, 906, 806, 706, 606, 506, 406, 306, 206, and 106. Heck, there was also the year 666AD, and yet somehow the earth still spins on its axis and circles the sun. Again, I'm not worried. Although I'm sure that there are some whack jobs that will do something stupid to try to hasten the end of the world or something like that, like drink some laced Kool-Aid.

It depends on whether you're using latin or greek to transliterate "Nero" into numbers. 70 AD was a looong time ago, folks. You've been "left behind".

Yup, I still remember I was at biology class that morning (it was only on Tues and Thurs). It was a nice day until I turned on the news. ![]()

So? It's a numerical representation of man's futile attempts to order and control time which the one and only thing that cannot and will not be mastered by man, beast, supreme deity, microbe, or the various other forms of beings that so much as consider making the attempt. That's enough caffiene for me... Funny how it seems to improve my typing though. |
