| What is the best way to get this off? A guy told me today that you can twist the barell and crack the chrome inside. |
| Need more info. Is it just threaded or is it threaded and pinned? Some machining will be required if it is attached permanently. Even if it has been attached permanently a little exploratory surgury with a dremel will reveal the means of attachment. If you have any doubt, have a 'smith remove it. If you are sure it is only threaded on purchase a set of barrel blocks to hold the barrel in a vise and use the approriate sized wrench to unscrew the suppressor. |

Barrel vise right behind the flash supressor and the correct wrench will do no damage to the barrel. I doubt chrome lining can be harmed but a barrel vise between the FSB and the flash supressor allows ease of removal without pulling the gas tube or even handguards. If you grip the barrel right behind the supressor, the resulting torque will be taken in shear instead of twisting the barrel. You can get much more torque on the supressor by doing this because the barrel acts as a torsion spring, limiting the torque. In fact, impact wrenches use the same principle to limit torque by use of extension bars. Look for them next time you have new tires installed. You CAN damage the upper if you try to hold the receiver. |
