Members here quite often suggest that getting a lawyer is the best move in many scenarios. My question is: where do you look for a good lawyer? how many of you have a lawyer on call, so to speak? I know a federal judge that i am pretty sure i could get to direct me to a good lawyer, but how should i choose one if i were to get into some kind of trouble involving self defense or transport or something? |
Referral is the best way. Ask your friends. Advertising is not a good indicator. Most of the good lawyers I know will want to know the general purpose of your need for assistance before meeting with you, but do not charge consultation fees. You are under no obligation to hire a lawyer until you've met with him and decided that he's acceptable personally and professionally. |

I maintain an online list of attorneys who are pro-gun. They aren't necessarily "gun lawyers" but if you give one of them your money it's unlikely to find its way to the Brady Bunch, and you might be able to get a referral to someone who can handle your particular problem. http://www.building-tux.com/dsmjd/law/lawr_list.htm |
| My best friend was in a White Shoe Manhattan firm before moving up here to be with his wife-to-be. We met while working for the same public official. Anytime, day or night, I have a former $500 an hour (mid 1990s) attorney at my beck and call. Friends are good. Oh, and he's a gun nut too! |
Sometimes those are the best guys to hire. |
