Okay, I got a DVD Burner. I got blank DVDs (DVD-R). I got Burning Software (Nero). It read my disk and said insert a blank one. When I did, it said it was no good. Do I need to Format the DVD or something? How do I do that?!? |
no. upon inserting a blank DVD, a.) Nero should pop up asking what do you want to do with your DVD -or- b.) Windows should pop up a box asking you what you want to do with your DVD (i.e. choose Nero). did you try another blank disc? |
When I went to buy blanks, it was a total crapshoot. I have no idea the difference between +R and -R. Can anyone explain? |
all dvd writers made in the last few years should be capable of writing to minus R and plus R discs. |

UPDATE: I just tried it again. Without doing anything different, it seems to be working. It is burning right now. Thanks to all that helped! Another question, I feel like a DOLT for asking... What is this "Neato" thing it came with? It's a red disk shaped thing with a pop up center. Other than holding a couple of disks on it what is it's purpose? |
is it used to put on the cd labels |
Are you copying MOVIES? If so, you need a program designed to decode the movies & copy them for you. Something like DVDShrink.... Nero & Alcohol 120 can only burn, they can't decode. DVD XCopy is old news (since it was banned), but if you want it, it's probably available on bittorrent (www.isohunt.com)... Current software includes 'CloneDVD' or 'DVDShrink', along with many others... |
Glad to hear ya got it working and you will not understand any of this but it is interesting: With DVD-R the addressing is done with additional pits and lands called land pre-pits in the areas between the grooves and the groove on a DVD-R disc has a constant wobble frequency. With DVD+R it uses a much faster wobble, and the addressing information is carried by a phase modulation of this wobble called ADIP. |
Both will work in any modern DVD player Some recorders only use one or the other. If your recorder uses either it does not matter.... |
