I'm afflicted with the new gun itch.  Powders and sprays don't help, so I suppose I have no choice but to buy a gun.  So help me decide, dear arfcom hive mind: do I buy a Garand and a 1903 from the CMP, or do I buy a 1911?

Don't tempt me to buy all three.  My bank account hates me enough as it is.

If you do not own an M1, that should be your first priority. Every American gun owner needs one.

You have to ask?  The M1 for sure and the 1903 if you can afford it as well.  Get a service grade M1 if that's going to be the only one you own.  At the very least, get a field grade.  Don't get a rack grade unless you plan to rebarrel it.

How bad is the rifling in the rack grade Garands?

An accute case would call for any class 3 purchase as a remedy.

Well, you want to pinch the reservoir tip and then slowly roll that sumbitch down as far as it will go. Careful taking it back off when you're done though, because your pubes can get hung up in it... oh wait... just reread your post title....never mind!

+1

In addition to the wise words above, the CMP will soon run out of 1903's so you better buy one while you can.

1911's will always be made by somebody, but the CMP may not always have M1 and 1903's to sell!
