I just bought a 1958 model Winchester 94.  After firing the empty cartridge will not eject.  I have to pry the empty out with a screwdriver.  The extractor does grab the empty but eventually slips up and over it.  What's your best guess as to the problem?  Also, is there a databse I can go to to find the guns age?

Most likely problem is a weak extractor.

Knock the brass out from the muzzle with a rod.  Clean the chamber really well.  If it still refuses to extract, get a new extractor.

Nice buy!  How about some pics once you get your extractor changed out...?

You are prying brass out of the chamber with a screwdriver? On a pre-'64 Winchester?

I'm going to be ill.

And stop sticking a screwdriver in it.

Don't worry, I was very gently with it.  The dealer sent it to his gunsmith.  We are thinking that it is a very dirty or pitted chamber.  Anybody have an estimate on value?  Cosmetically, it appears to be in very good condition - not excellent - compared to others of its age.
