Old Love Letters
There were some love letters
So tattered and torn
They were old with age
And with hands had been worn.
Words of love were written
Upon the pages so tattered
I over-looked the crumbling
It was the words that mattered.
Could it have been me
That the words were written about?
Oh, that happened many years ago
And there is certainly no doubt.
There were plans spoken of
That never did occur
I do remember such a love
I remember it as though it were.
I remember it as though
Youth had not passed
And love had reached fulfillment
And forever did last.
The old love letters
In seclusion they lay hid
Among words of memories
That to me did bid.
My love, my love, my only love
You did bid me from the past
To come and read your words
Yes, the words of love that will last.
The bundle of love letters
In privacy had been kept
In my heart I remembered them
And had secretly wept.
But today I opened the pages
And with trembling I did read
Of love words spoken to me
And my heart pounded, indeed.
So carefully written
Were love words so sure
I knew why I loved him
And why the love did endure.
But amidst the crumbling pages
Those words do now lie
For the paper had reached its end
And said its last good-bye.
But forever in my heart
The love words will always live
I will remember fondly
The love he did give.
Gently tucked away in my heart
With the crumbling pages gone away
I will always remember and smile
About the lost love I found today.
