I need a replacement AMD Motherboard and CPU. Nothing major, just a basic PC Setup. Anyone know what's a good setup? What socket to go with on a motherboard and a good Chip Value with good speed? Differance between athlon and sempron? |
Throw it all in the trash dumpster and go buy a Mac. Problem solved. IBC5ASM. (In Before Cruze5 And Subnet Mask) |

Which makes them overpriced instead of obscenely overpriced. If you are interested in the basics like word processing, ripping music, Internet and e-mail then the Sempron/Sempron 64 will do if you want to gaming or stuff that begs for power like graphics or video Athlon 64 is the ticket. Having said that if you can afford it I would get a Socket 939 Athlon 64 and motherboard with PCI express because that is going to give you room to upgrade in the future. Socket 754 is a dead end. It can be done for about $200. |
| I'd check out the AsRock 939DualSata II. I've had that board since January and it has been running smooth. I swapped it in because I can run my AGP card for now, and switch to a PCI Express one when I get some cash. It also has a slot for the new AMD socket when it comes out. |

what is your current setup?? any system you have you will most likely be replacing ALOT if not all of the parts. the newer motherboards require higher end powersupplies. newer faster memory. to get full advantage of the system you also need to buy a faster SATA II hardrive also. (there is no point in getting a new system and them putting a ata100 5400 rpm hd as your main drive) you have had several good suggestions so far, for parts and companies to get the parts from. any board will have most features onboard all ready. some have onboard video, but if the sytem is going to be used for gaming you will need to buy a higher end gaming video card. give us more info and we will do our best to help |
Fixed it for ya |

Hell, I even have a old Nforce3 gigabyte with that 3200+ 939 chip overclocked to 2.5ghz and it just screams, some can get this chip running at 2.8ghz on air cooling. The speed and the temps that it runs at will blow your mind for the price. Even overclocked 500mhz my 3200+ never gets over 36C-37C. Don't know if I'll buy a dual core processor, the quad cores will be out by the time this 2.5ghz setup is behind the times. |
