I'm looking for a .308 "fun" rifle and looking at three choices. So, should I buy the FAL Sporter, or the G3 Sporter (HK copy) from CenterfireSystems, or should I get the CETME from Century Arms? |

I'm a little ambivalent about them, but the JLD Enterprises PTR-91 is worth looking at. edit- I would assume that the Centerfire gun is a Century. I know some people have good luck with Century's cetme's and g-3 clones, but I have seen some pretty nasty ones. If you like to fiddle around with guns and maybe have to do some work to get it running, then that's a thought. Otherwise I would stick with a DSA Fal (I'm not that crazy about FALs, but I could live with it), a JDL ptr-91 (some rough edges like the rear sight, loose trigger packs and handguards with no heatshields, but still worth a look), an M1a/M14-probably from Springfield or an AR10. AR10s are easy to mount optics on and I like the "feel" better than the other rifles mentioned, but the magazines can be a bit of pia. |

+2 I have 3 AR10s, a couple DSA FALs, a JLD PTR91, and a Century CETME. If I could only keep one, I'd keep one of the FALs. They're very well made, completely relaible (so far), absurdly easy to take down and clean, use cheap mags (unlike the AR10s), and they don't mangle the brass (unlike the HK/CETME types). |
Are the centerfiresystem FAL's or G3's any good? |
| Im waiting for the Rock river LAR-10 .308 this summer. My only problem with it is its alittle less accurate than I was hoping 1.5" @ 100y I would like to improve that to .75-1" at 100y |
What? Don't you WANT to spend twice as much for a DSA or JLD? Sorry, I know nothing about the quality of the Centerfire products. The prices do look nice, though. Assuming they're competently put together on quality receivers, I'd go with the FAL. I just think it's a better design than the HK/CETME. I'm sure others would disagree. |

.75-1"  That's sniper-oops "precision" rifle territory. You're tough! I would assume their varmint version would shoot in that area. Also, I am only guessing, but I would guess that the publishes accuracy guarantees are conservative. One of the guys from "SWAT" took a Bushmaster 308 to a rifle class and he basically said something like that it was more accurate than he could realistically shoot in the field.I am debating one of these also, though I do have an AR10 |
