Here's my Valmet 78, .308 rifle. I own 8 Valmets and this is certainly my favorite to shoot in semi auto. With a Tromix DIAS in place for full auto shooting, it pounds the crap out of you, despite the gun being fairly large and heavy. I have fired one other 78 in 7.62x39 (full auto) and it was very controllable. I have never had the oportunity to shoot a 78 in .223 however. I have played around with converting G3 mags myself, and I have been unable to get them to work. I have been successful in getting Galil mags to work however. It only takes a very slight modification to the Galil mag, and they will run just fine. I have one customer that I sold several to, and he has run them full auto in his .308 78 and they work just fine. I have only put this gun on paper one time, and that was at about 65 yards using Radway Green ammo. It consistently put five rounds into 1" at that range, and I am not the greatest iron sight shooter. It certainly surprised the hell out of me. |

geez, tony! you have all the cool toyz! very nice! 78's are ultra rare in my neck of the woods. i have only seen one 7.62x39 (full auto) and one .308 (i think that was a parts gun, but too many years since i saw it to remember, for sure). the .233 and 7.62x39 mags will be the easiest to find. but the command hefty price tags for the .223's. better ask tony about that conversion job...i've never seen a .308 valmet mag for sale. heck, i'm still trying to track down some yugo .308 mags (again, dang pricey!). have you talked to finnbear? |

They run between $1,500 and $1,600 these days. Here's quick run down on "selling" prices of various Valmets. 71 .223 $1,000 76 .223 fixed stock $1,200 76 .223 tube folder $1,400 76 .308 fixed stock $1,450 76 .308 tube folder $1,800 76 7.62x39 fixed $2,500 76 7.62x39 folder $2,900 62 7.62x39 $2,400 78 .223 $1,400 78 7.62x39 $1,650 78 .308 $1,500 82 .223 $1,250 This is just my opinion of what I have bought and sold over the years. The 7.62x39 Valmets are the most rare with the 76 folder topping the chart. All of the Valmets are very nice guns, however the 71 is really a bottem feeder in the lineup. The action and workmanship on the 71's is quite bit lower than the rest of the guns. I would suggest spending a couple of extra dollars and getting a 76, rather than a 71. Pricing on the 82 is probably the most wide spread ranging from $1,200 to $2,000+ but most knowledgable Valmet owners don't like them. The 82 is a rare gun, but it is far from scarce, since they tend to change hands at a rapid rate. On the Valmet board the other day, it was unanimously agreed that the 82 was the worst Valmet ever made. |

Well all I care about is the M78! If the price is 1500$ US then I should expect 2500$ here. What about scope mounts? folding stocks? anyone know where I can get that? BTW: Tuukka do you still get new one's in finland?how much they go for there? If so I could probably import one. |

Well, Valmet hasn´t made assault rifles for ages now. The most recent assault rifle was made by Sako, the RK95. It was supposed to be adopted as the new Finnish Army assault rifle, Army did not adopt it and Sako made the RK95 as a civilian rifle, as the M92S, same as RK95 but lacking full auto and a folding stock(some M92S were sold in the early stages of civilian sales with folding stocks, premium prices now. Only one RK95 is in civilian hands, the rumor is that eh person has been offered 35000 FIM already on it, has not sold. I think Sako made the civilian series only to cover some costs from the loss of the military contract. The RK95 was only adopted in small numbers for our Rapid Deployment and UN forces and to Army Special Jaegers. [img]http://www.securityarms.com/20010315/pics/0700/778.jpg[/img] |
