Come on folks, short for 'pictures' is 'pics', not 'Picts':



The term Picts refers to the tribes that Mediterranean classical-era writers placed in Caledonia, which itself comprises the part of present-day Scotland north of the Forth and Clyde

BTW Picti meant "painted one" so I guess it has the same Latin root as "picture."  The Picts painted themselves or tatooed themselves with woad, or blue dye, when they went into battle, which they usually did stark naked.  Hadrian's Wall was built to keep them out of Britain.
