Shamelessly stolen from a GlockTalk post. What can we learn from this? Warning: BOTD in links off of the website. Click Here |

It looks like he was shot in the head on the third shot. A vest probably wouldn't have saved him if I'm correct about this. The first shot seems to have exited his body and puff his shirt out, but didn't exit his shirt tail. I don't think he survived. The man who shot him deserves to go to Hell after being executed. What did I learn from this video? That it's almost impossible to defend yourself with a handgun unless you trust your spydie senses and draw first BEFORE the bad guy draws. The amount of time this guy had to make that decision (if he even had a handgun) was less than 1/2 of a second. |

Go to the "comments" for that post. Bunch of Euro trash blaming it on our gun laws, and 88ers posting stupid crap. Here is a post I quoted and responded to: "
Unfortunately, that only works in a totalitarian police type state. Which America isn't although by continuing to follow the rest of the world, we are headed in that direction. in the early 1900's, we had prohibition. It didn't work. What the people want, they get somehow. Today, we have the war on drugs. It's not working, despite the millions of dollars pumped into it, and hundreds of laws passed, and the thousands of SWAt teams in action every day here in the US. It has slowed the traffic, but not stopped. I can actually get an illegal drug in my small rural town easier than I can get a used pistol! If we followed your suggestion, guns would become like drugs are here......smuggled in illegally and still easy to obtain, but only for those who are part of the drug/gang criminal culture. And these are the people you DON'T want to have them! Meanwhile, those who wish to follow the law are left defenseless. That is morally wrong, and it's why we have the 2nd Amendment....because at one time, we were ruled by people who believed that the best way to ensure equality and the preservation of human rights is a level playing field in terms of having the ability to enforce your will on others through force of arms. Guns aren't for hunting, they are for killing. It's the morality and behavior of the people that are screwed up. You can keep your totalitarian government. You people in Britian are fucked if your government ever turns on you and decides all Catholics (for sake of example) or whatever need to die. At least I have a fighting chance. And that's what being an American is all about. Or should I give up that right so that, someday, my kids might have an infinitesemally smaller chance of being the victim of some scum like in this video? Ummm........NO. How about deal with the SCUM and keep the rights.......way better for everyone involved and society as a whole." |
Probably the best he could have hoped for was a chance to put a round or two in the bad guy before he fainted from blood loss. That would be preferable to what actually happened, even if the store clerk still died in that scenario. I know these videos are disturbing, but they are a valuable educational tool as well. They show you how just how quickly you must act if you are in a similar situation. The robber already had the gun in his hand. The only chance the clerk would have had would require drawing his pistol the exact millisecond he sensed danger. He would have had to draw his pistol BEFORE the robbers did. An armed customer in the back of the store might have helped, but most robbers will wait until the store is empty (if they're smart). Open carry might discourage some robbery attempts (would probably be against company policy), but it could also prompt a robber to walk in and shoot right away in order to get the pistol. Store clerks are at a severe disadvantage compared to a person with a CCW on the street. When I walk down the street and encounter somebody that I think might have hostile intentions, I cross the street BEFORE they close in on me. If they follow, I turn around and face them with pistol in hand. This gives me a second or two to decide whether or not to draw down. So far this hasn't happened since I got my CCW nine years ago (got robbed quite a few times before my CCW. I believe that the main reason I haven't been robbed since I got the CCW is that I tend to avoid situations that I was in when I was younger, and the few times I actually put my hand on my pistol the potential BG changed his mind). Store clerks don't have the luxury of putting distance between themselves and a potential robber, and it's normal for customers to reach in their pockets to pay for items bought. Clerks have almost no time to determine if a person is reaching for money or a pistol. They have to rely almost entirely on "spidey senses". |

I remember this shooting, they showed it on the news with the guy's moans. It was in DFW about 10-15 years ago. The clerk did not live. IIRC, was a retired grandfather. I believe they caught the fuckers that did it too. Don't know if they've ridden the sodium pentathol express yet though. Totally pointless shooting. |
There's no real defense against an assassination, which is basically what this was. Once a gun was on him and they guy was saying "give me the money", his choices were comply (and die, in this case), or if he was armed, drop down and try to draw and fire. |
Agreed. This is posted not so much for the perspective of being a clerk, since I doubt we have relatively few junior store clerks in here. I'm thinking more of the reactions when one of us is in the store and something happens. That kid shot that guy in with forethought, and cold-bloodedly. He did not do it out of rage, as the narrator says, but simply to leave no witnesses. He would, no doubt, do the same to any other shoppers who happened to be in the store at that time. |
I am a college student and work at a garage/gas station for gun money and rent, and the minute I saw how the desk was positioned I knew what was going to happen. I have never been in an armed robbery situation (thank god) but it is common sense that you do not have to worry about the guy in front of you, its his buddy coming in behind him. Our store has the counter situated directly facing the front door, and as soon as I see someone coming in, they get my full attention. I would not work at this job without a gun on me under any circumstances, and for the life of me cannot figure out why anyone else would. |

Edit your post. Regardless of what happened what you said is just not right in any way shape or form. |
Even if he edits his, you need to edit YOURS. |
Yes I do Done |
| You practice. You draw and fire the second you see the gun. You put a little distance between you and the bottomfeeder. If you've practiced you will still be able to hit him at distance. His hit % drops considerably with every step away from point blank you take. You set the terrain to your advantage. A candybar display at the counter where the shooter is would make the shooter try to shoot around it, whereas you could, with malice of forethought, shoot directly through it. Maybe they get you, but at least you have a chance. |
I hope you have a vest also! |

When I was in college, I worked 'till 4am at a pool-hall. We used to get deadbeats all the time. But our counter was about 3-feet higher that the rest of the floor so that no one could jump in. If this happened all we had to do was drop to the floor. In addition, we all carried pistols. The owner carried a snubby 357 magnum. Anyway, I always had my hand on my Glock whenever a possible robber asked me anything. I think I was ALMOST robbed a couple of times. I say this because I would get strange request, like "hey man you have to look in the bathroom, there's something weird there" or " i dropped some money behind the table" or some other stupid request that would have me get out of the booth. I was ALWAYS an ass and tell the guy he was shit out of luck. I drew the pistol once when in the dead of winter some deadbeat walked in with a sky-mask on. I pointed a Glock 23 at his face and yelled to take off the mask. He nearly crapped his pants. I dont think I would do that now but I was only 21 and at 3am, some things just seem to make sense. |
